Regarding Lorenzo Hinds' death, Nan asks: > Where in California? and Bill answers: >born 17 Feb 1884 in Arkansas and died 18 Feb 1972 in Santa Cruz County, My notes say Bonny Doon CA, but I can't find such a town on my map. I assume it is in Santa Cruz County. Bill also asks: >While you do not know of another King woman marrying a Hinds, do you know >if there were any male candidates for such a marriage? Maybe, but it doesn't seem likely to me. Lorenzo had 7 brothers. Abraham married Violet Tucker and Rachel Goddard. Holland married Julia Jones. Sylvester married Mrs Mary Wilson. George and Miller died young. John S "went west", probably to California with his brothers Holland and Sylvester. The last brother was Sylvanus, who died in Hindsville in 1863, just before his 20th birthday. I don't know for sure, but I think he never married. At any rate, he was not alive in 1872 when Minerva King died. I don't know exactly when the three brothers went to California, but I'm fairly certain they were not married at the time. Holland and Sylvester's children were born in CA. I don't know if John S ever married. He died in 1874 at age 30, but that's all I know about him. Sylvanus and John S are the only real possibilities for the other Hinds, and neither of them seems very likely. Sorry Nan, but the brothers didn't go to Tulare Co that I know of. Sylvester was in Plumas Co, and Holland was in Sonoma Co. Again I don't know about John S, but one story says he went to San Francisco. The other Hinds may have been a cousin of Lorenzo, rather than a brother. My William Hinds had a couple of sons I haven't been able to track down. William Jr born 1833 is supposed to have married a Virginia (unknown), or a Talitha (unknown). I question both of those marriages, though. James D born 1836 married a Martha (unknown), who may have been the widow of a Guthrie. Could any of those women be the missing King? Ed, the information you sent me doesn't seem to say if Minerva's sister had any Hinds children when the Moores were sent to live with her. Do you have anything on that? It might help me match up with William or James. >I wonder about the significance of the given name "Columbus"; which family >was it common to -- Hinds, King or Moore. You say that the eldest son of I'm not sure it has a significance, other than that it was a popular name in the 1800s. It was used in several of my Hinds branches, but also in many other families in my database. I think it was just an example of the historical names fad, like all the children named Benjamin Franklin whatever or Thomas Jefferson something. >Since Lorenzo Hinds is apparently not buried with his wife, Mary Jane, in >the Hindsville Cemetery, I wonder what happened to him. Are you sure about that? I have a book on Hindsville published by the Madison Co Genealogy & Historical Society. It has a listing of the Hindsville Cemetery, and shows Lorenzo. It shows him right next to Mary Jane. His dates are given as 1835-10-19 to 1885-01-22. Teresa adds: >If you have any other info on JCC Hinds, I would love to hear >about it. I don't have much on John himself. He was born 1861-03-16 in Madison Co AR and died 1941-06-26 in Waco TX. His wife Sarah died 1931-03-08, also in Waco. John's siblings were: Margaret Staltany Hinds 1862, who died as a baby Richard Greenleaf Magruder Hinds 1863 Sylvester Hinds 1867 Thomas W Hinds 1869 Susan Arvilla Hinds 1871 Allen Hinds 1873, who died as a baby Walter L Hinds 1874, who died as a baby I haven't been able to trace any of them. Nan asks: > Does anyone on this list have a timeline of the Hinds in Hindsville, >Madison Co. AR? Madison Co. touches the northeast corner of Crawford Co. >Was their father Levi also in Hindsville? Or did they >arrive in Hindsville after my John's death in 1838 in Crawford Co. AR? I haven't ever worked up a real timeline on them, I'm afraid. As far as I can tell, my Hindses came to Arkansas in early 1832, plus or minus a year. They were there well before 1838. Levi was with them. I'm fairly sure he died about 1847 in Madison Co, but I have not found his grave.
