Will of Moses Hinds Guernsey County, Ohio IN THE NAME OF THE BENEVOLENT FATHER OF ALL, I, Moses Hinds, of Washington Township Guernsey County Ohio, Do Make and Publish and this my LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT, in manner and form following: Item 1st It is my will is that all my just debts and funeral expenses be fully paid. Item 2nd I give and divise to my beloved wife, Mary, in lieu of her dower the farm on which we now reside situate in Washington township and the County of Guernsey aforesaid containing about eighty two acres during her natural life and all the stock household goods furniture provisions and other goods and chattels which may be thereon at the time of my decease to be disposed of by her as her own personal property. Item 3rd I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary aforesaid all the money which may be in my possession at the time of my decease together will all bonds notes due bills and other evidence of indebtedness which may be due or owing to me at my decease to use and dispose of as her own personal property excepting a note on my son Joseph C. Hinds calling for eighty dollars. Item 4th And at the death of my said wife I direct that my real estate be sold for the best price it will fetch in money and the proceeds thereof be divided as follows /viz/ to Lucinda Millison wife of Jonathan Millison I give the sum of fifty dollars, to Mary Milner wife of Joseph Milner I give the sum of fifty dollars and to my grandson James Hinds son of John Hinds I give forty dollars. Item 5th I give and bequeath to the heirs of my son James Hinds the sum of one dollar he the said James Hinds having received his share in his lifetime as will appear by a receipt or release bearing date of the twenty ninth day of August A.D. 1828. Item 6th And the remainder of the proceeds of any real estate it is my will to be divided as follows beloved Edith Williams wife of John Williams, Matilda Wilkins wife of Ozias Wilkins, Rosanna Dougherty wife of John Dougherty, Catharine Vanhorn wife of Bernard Vanhorn and Sarah Toland wife of Jeremiah Toland share and share alike. Item 6th And I do hereby appoint and nominate my sons John Hinds and Joseph Carpar Hinds Executor of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke all former wills by me made and ratifying and confirming this and no other as my last will and testament, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of August one thousand eight hundred and forty seven (SIGNATURE) It is my will that the note mentioned in the will calling for fifty dollars signed by Joseph C. Hinds be given to him at my decease without paying the amount. (SIGNATURE) Transcriber's notes: 1. Moses' wife's maiden name was probably Morton; 2. Roseanna Dougherty's name was sometimes spelled Daugherty. 3. The family came to Ohio from Washington Co., PA about 1813. Moses and Mary were both said to have been born in MD.
