I'm so very sorry that it has taken so long to get back on the computer and in touch with you once again. Unfortunately everything went downhill from the day we moved, and then worse from there. Please feel free to use my e-mail address and I will send you all the info I have to date on our HINDS family. I have copies of census returns which I obtained from Lewisham Library and it would be no problem to go back up there and get certificates. I also have 'photos of the house your g-grandfather Frederick will have spent most of his time, indeed I visited it frequently when my Great Aunt Flo was still alive because she lived there. My G-grandmother Mary Ann HINDS married Charles DANIEL and one of their sons was called Charles FREDERICK Daniel, after your G-Grandfather. It's very late here at the moment, half-past midnight, but tomorrow I shall look for all the info I have and e-mail you direct. Take care Maria

I am a descendant of Mary Ann DANIEL nee HINDS daughter of George Burt Hinds. One of the things that attracted me to your message was the inclusion of the name KING as well as HINDS. I know that some of my G-grandmothers siblings went out to New Zealand, one of them being a Violet Hinds. My Dad was a Merchantman and during one of his voyages down under he visited family and written on the back of a photograph is the address of a Violet KING, who I would assume is the former Violet Hinds or perhaps a daughter. Is there any connection here? I would be very interested to hear from you. Regards Maria

Greetings, In the NJ Herald (Newton, Sussex county, NJ) dated Thursday 4 July 1907, this marriage announcement mentions a HINDS connection; Hymeneal Longcor-VanAuken Thursday, June 27th, was a most beautiful day, and this day one of the prettiest June weddings occurred at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Van Auken, about one and a half miles from Newton. The contracting parties were Mr. Arthur H. Longcore, one of the promising young sons of Sparta township, and Miss Lavinia C. Van Auken, one of Sussex county's popular school teachers, and a most estimable young lady. At twelve o'clock the wedding march was most beautifully rendered by Miss Estelle Kyte, and the happy couple, preceded by Mr. Hinds, the groomsman, and Miss Lestia VanAuken, the bridesmaid, took their places beneath a bower of evergreens and flowers, where they were met by the Rev. A. J. Turner, who, in very impressive manner, joined them as man and wife. The bride was beautifully gowned in white Persian lawn and lace. The maid of honor, Miss Lestia VanAuken, wore green batiste. Mr. Fred Hinds, a cousin of the groom, was best man. The bride has been a popular school teacher in Sparta township for the past three years. The house was profusely decorated with flowers and evergreens, and the assemblage of seventy-five guests made a lively throng. The happy bride was the recipient of many valuable and useful presents. After congratulations and a bountiful wedding dinner Mr. and Mrs. Longcore left for Niagara Falls on their wedding tour. If someone feels this might be their Hinds connection, you should contact Robert Longcore at the Sussex county Historical Society http://www.sussexcountyhistory.org to see if he has further info. Howdy Folks, Here's a HINES tidbit I found during my genealogical explores. Hopefully you all will take the time to contribute items you have found. This will help build a wonderful archive of info for all Hinds/Hines researchers. Happy Ancestor Hunting, Cathy DiPietro Biographical and portrait cyclopedia of Niagara County, New York Philadelphia Pa: Gresham Pub. Co., 1892, 634 pgs. Rev. Thomas F. Hines, pastor of the church of the Sacred Heart at Suspension Bridge, New York, was born May 10, 1826, in the Parish of Ballymore, County Westmeath, Ireland. His parents, Patrick Hines and Bridget Smith, left their native land in March, 1828, for their new home in the "land of the Free." Thomas F., in his youth, attended the parochial as well as public schools. Later in life he entered the college of Notre Dame, Indiana, but remained there only a short time. The climate did not agree with his health. Afterwards, in September, 1849, he went to Montreal, Canada, where he entered the college of the Assumption, and remained four years. He then went to Buffalo diocese, where Rt. Rev. Timon adopted him and sent him to his seminary in Buffalo city, which was then in charge of the Oblate Fathers. He remained there until March, 1859, when he was ordained priest, and sent as an assistant priest to Rev. Father O'Connor, of Canandaigua, Ontario county. After a short time he was recalled, by Bishop Timon, to Buffalo, to re-organize the St. Joseph's Orphan Boys' asylum, located at Limestone Hill, which work was immediately begun un the month of May. A building forty by fifty feet, three and one-half stories high, was finished and ready for occupation on the 1st of November the same year. It was the wing of the center building erected in 1858 and 1859, sixty by seventy feet. ** the article continues to describe the buildings and Rev. Hines zeal in discharging his duties. There is also a portrait included ** --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Hi All: I will be out of touch from June 10 through June 27. A member of this list, Cathy DiPietro, who is also administrator of other lists, has kindly offered to keep a watch over Hinds-L mail list while I am out of touch. My husband and I with a daughter and two grandsons (11 & 13 yrs) will be taking our first tour of New England. I just looked at the weather on weather.com and it doesn't look good for touring in CT, RI & MA this coming week. Drat. School vacation determined when we were going. But, we have our rain hats and umbrellas so will tough it out. Regards Nan 71532.734@compuserve.com
Hi Hinds-L Listers: I'm hoping those of you who understand e-mail headings can solve this mystery for me. This message below arrived yesterday and I haven't sent a query or question to any website or person in a long time. But, it sounds like she is answering a query of mine. She ends by saying. "Sorry." I hit Reply asking if I could send it to the Hinds list and it came back. Address unknown. I am especially interested because my John Hinds sold land in Wayne Co. KY in 1803 and then showed up in 1810 & 1811 signing petitions to Congress from the Louisiana Territory, then later petitions from the MO Territory. He was also in the New Madrid Militia, MO Territory. He then ended up in the Lawrence Co. militia AR Territory a couple years later. I feel that he never moved but that the boundaries changed. So, this message below mentions MO Territory and Wayne Co. Could this Joseph be a brother or cousin of my John who WE THINK is a son of Levi and grandson of Joseph Sr. of Morris NJ. whose will was probated 1771in Guilford Co. NC. I am pasting the original message and headings below. Regards Nan Wolf 71532.734@compuserve.com ================================ Nan Wolf rec'd this message June 1, 2004: Joseph Hinds/Hainds & his wife Jenny are named in the 1819 Will of George Smiley of Wayne County, KY. Statement for Joseph Hainds & Jenny Hainds, his wife, was made in St. Charles, MO as residents of the Missouri Territory. Deed was produced in Madison County, KY 10/7/1819. Jenny was apparently the daughter of George Smiley & his wife Catherine of Wayne County, KY, my ancestral grandparents. I haven't had any luck locating information on Joseph & Jenny. Sorry! Many, many thanks for posting this. The name looked familiar to me and after checking with some 2nd and 3rd cousins, we have determined that this is a member of our family - one with whom the cousins lost touch years ago! While sad to hear of his passing, it was nice for the cousins to know what happened to him and it solved another of our mysteries about whatever happened to... Many thanks again for your effort in posting this. Debbie Jamieson Ontario, Canada

Hi: Awhile back while looking for a Sarah Jane Hinds who married a Robert Russell in Van Buren/Ft. Smith Arkansas in the 1840s, I ran across other Sarah Hinds and sent them along. I'm pasting below a bit more on the Sarah Hinds/Asa Battles connection. Note that it is probably part of the website of our Ken Hinds (on this list). Gosh, I wish I had names like that to search on - Zena, Wilton, Perley, Leland. No, I have to be looking for Sarah, John, David, Elizabeth, Margaret, etc. Sighhhhh.
