    3. Hi: I rec'd this message today. Regards, Nan [email protected] -------------------------------------------------------- Source: GC-Guilford Co. NC Query Forum URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Guilford/1561 Subject: John H. Lee or Jean Lee Surname: Lee, Hines ------------------------- I am trying to locate a descendent of John H. Lee who was in Guilford Co. in 1953. His address was 824 Homeland Ave., Greensboro, NC, and his occupation was accountant. His wife was the daughter of Clarence Hines who died in Memphis, TN, in 1953. I think that her name was Evelyn and Clarence married her in Marion, AR. I know that he had one daughter named Jean who married John H. Lee. This daughter would be a second cousin of my wife and we would like to make contact with her or her descendants. Bob & Jean Asquith 8506 Camille Dr. Huntsville, AL 35802 From: "Robert C. 3. Hi: This is from this week's Dick Eastman's Online Newsletter. Feel free to pass it along - just make sure his credit line is included. Regards, Nan [email protected] ================================= Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter Vol. 5 No. 35 - August 26, 2000 Past issues of this Newsletter are available at: http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/news/articles/d_p_1_archive.asp ========================================================== The following article is from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter and is copyright 2000 by Richard W. Eastman. It is re-published here with the permission of the author. If you do contact any of the companies or societies mentioned in this newsletter, please tell them that you read about their services in this newsletter. ============================================================== - Five Thousand Ways to Earn a Living So you found a record of your ancestor in the census? And it listed his occupation as a "barilla manufacturer?" Now you want to know what a barilla manufacturer is? A new Web site can help. Judith B Glad and an unnamed partner have teamed together to place a list of 5,000 trades and professions, as listed in old documents. I don't know if this includes all the occupations in the English language or not, but the list certainly must include most occupations! As a precaution from having the entire list "ripped off," only the occupation names are listed. To obtain a definition of a particular occupation, you need to contact Judith Glad directly. She will provide you with the definitions of up to five trades. The explanation and the entry to the occupations list can be found at: http://www.teleport.com/~heyjude/genealog.htm I looked through the long list and found many terms that I had never seen previously. OK Judith, so just what is a "geezer"? ==============================================================

    1. Daniel & Willard Haynes - 1818 MA
    2. Nan & George Wolf
    3. Hi: At www.genbay.com/ there is a petition in an 1818 Boston, MA newspaper signed among others by Daniel & Willard Haynes attesting to support of their pastor in a controversy in the town of Natick. There are 30 names signed to the petition which would be neighbors and possibly relatives of these Haynes men. An item below that one is an obit about a Wm. Haynes of Boston, a 2nd officer aboard the ship Saco that as died of fever in City Point, VA..1826 Under HINES was found: An 1857 obit in a Philadelphia paper for: "Mrs. ELIZABETH HINES, wife of Samuel W. Hines, and daughter of Jacob and Sarah Ruth, in the 21st year of her age." Type "Haynes" and "Hines" in the search mechanism and you'll find them. Regards, Nan [email protected]

    1. Interesting new site
    2. Nan & George Wolf
    3. HI: This site at: http://www.genbay.com/ calls itself a genealogical search site but it is really an interesting entrepreneurial (sp?) business that is collecting any old items with people's names and selling them. For instance - there were no Hinds items but there was this Hanes item which I am posting below. The fifth line has his name. Tell me what you think. I think the family of the fellow that was killed in the mine accident would probably part with $20. for a copy of this sad story. $50. ? Dunno. (I sound like Rudy! ) Regards, Nan List Host - Hinds-L [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------- HANES A 4-page Wheeling, West Virginia newspaper in VERY GOOD condition dated May 25, 1875; THE WHEELING INTELLIGENCER which contains the following item: MARTIN'S FERRY ITEMS - Mr. Otto Smith and Miss Eva Terry were married on Sunday. L.L. Smith, salesman for the Steel Works, leaves this morning on a business trip through the West. The new time table of the C.& P.R..R., and especially that of the accommodation train, makes it very convenient for those having business between here and Bellaire. L.W. Inglebright and J.T. Hanes leave to-day for Clevland, where they go to attend the Grand Lodge K. of P., which meets there to-morrow. Mr. George R. Jenkins left yesterday for New York and a tour through the Eastern States. He expects to be gone about a month or six weeks. An accident occurred yesterday morning which resulted in the death of Wm. Kalibe, who was employed in hauling out coal at the mines of Henry Helling. He had hauled out a load of coal and was going back for another, and in the entry met and passed a train coming out. Shortly after he had entered a noice was heard by the man coming out, who on going back found that from some cause the entry roof had given way, and that a large quantity of soapstone and dirt had fallen on and completely covered Kalibe, who was riding in the rear car. An alarm was immediately given, but before the unfortunate man could be extricated life was extinct. Upon examination it was found that his ankle and breast bone were broken, and that he was injured about the head, so that it is more than likely that he never knew what hurt him. The deceased was a young German, about twenty-eight or thirty years of age. He had been in this country but a short time, and was married not long since. His funeral will take place from his late residence, near Henry Helling's, this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in the Grove. The funeral of Wm. Donovan took place yesterday and was a very large one. The mysterious circumstances attending his being run over by the cars at Moundsville are the topics of general conversation, and his friends are still more determined than ever that he was killed and placed on the railroad to be run over by the cars to cover up the same. The fact that his watch and pocket-book were missing - only fifteen cents having been found - probably justifies them in forming such an opinion, but so far as we can learn there has been no further information gained concerning the case. We are glad to see our genial friend John L. Vanpelt in the Ohio City Bank, as one of the attaches of the same. The necessary survey was made yesterday on Hanover street, preparatory to setting curbstones on that thoroughfare. An attachment was sworn out before James Eagleson, J.P., by August Breidenstein against John Burris, whom he charges with attempting to remove his goods out of the county and leaving a small bill for rent unpaid. Case set for hearing on the 28th of this month. ------------------ Item #: A2165 Want to own the original? $45.00 Want to own a complete COPY of the original? $19.95 FREE SHIPPING on all orders at GenBay!

    1. Jesse Hinds in AR
    2. Nan & George Wolf
    3. Does anyone know anything about this Jesse Hinds? These are the same years that my direct ancestor John Hinds and his son, David Hinds show up in the Lawrence Co. tax lists. They then moved to Crawford Co. in 1831 - it seems that Jesse may have stayed behind if he was part of the same family. I have no siblings for David HInds - am wondering if this is one.
