I anyone is looking for the Joseph D. and Sally A. who were the children of: ARCHIBALD2 HINDS (JOSEPH1, LEVIA, JOSEPHB, JAMESC) was born 12 March 1794 in Knox (Hawkins) County, Tennessee (Source: "Hinds of Kentucky and Tennessee" by Dr. David Trimble). He married MARTHA COWAN. She was born 1808 in Kentucky. This may be him. There is so much difference in birthdates (1827 -1833) I doubt he's mine. It is possible. If he is mine, his wife had died or they were divorced. 1880 HINDS JOSEPH D. Gilpin County CO 021 Central City age 56, living with two males, Cochran and Meager(?), all miners, b. KY, parents b. VA. I have nothing on him except: He married Mary F. Baker in Page Co., Iowa in 1858. They are in Page Co. in 1860, with an infant son named Edward and Joseph's sister, Sally A. Hinds. Both Joseph and Sally were born in KY, Joseph 1833, Sally 1840, per the census ages. The name is "Hinds" on both records. The marriage says Joseph D., and the census says "J.D.". There seem to be no other Hinds in the immediate area. In 1861, the son, Edward died in Page Co. No further record. There were several Joseph D. Hinds in several lines born in that time period in KY. I don't have much interest in Hinds. I usually only add the parents and siblings of people who married my ancestors' siblings. I add nothing that I don't document and it's too much trouble (to me) to document a lot of collateral lines. I want to know where they went to, to get information on his wife. Lorenzo Hinds was apparently a member of the many Hinds families who lived near, and gave their name to, Hindsville, Arkansas. Hindsville is a small village in Madison County. By the 1860 census of Little Spring, Madison County, Arkansas, three people are living in house #141: Lorenzo Hinds, age 24, born AR; Mary J. Hinds, 24, TN; and Margaret King, 60. Margaret King was Mary Jane Hind's mother. Mary Jane King, who married Lorenzo Hinds in the 1850s, was the sister of my great-grandmother, Minerva Ann King. These sisters were the daughters of Margaret King, head of household, living in Conway County, Arkansas in 1850. I believe the mother, Margaret King, was married to William King, who was murdered in 1849 in Marion County, Arkansas, a victim in the Marion County War, also known as the Everett - Tutt War, AKA Everett - King Feud or War. I am hoping someone has researched these Hinds families and may have stumbled on proof that Mary Jane (King) Hind's father was William King. Thanks for any information. Several of you are acquainted with me in one form or another. I am Clif Hinds. I started one of the original Hind / Hinds / Hines research lists years ago on the old onelist. In the years that followed I have gathered a good deal of information. I have shared that information with the research lists that I am involved with. I know that a number of you are doing research and need to make ties. The problem is that all the pieces of the pie are in too many plates. Noone is sharing their piece. We will probably never know all of the answers, but together we are all smarter than any one of us. The ones that knew all the answers have died. We need to help each other. If you do not want to share openly on the list, I would be willing to receive and file your information to help everyone in their research. Your identity would not have to be tied to any information that I share. If you feel comfortable with sending what you know to me, I will store it on my hard drive for research purposes. Unfortunately I am currently living in Germany and have to depend on yahoo.com for my email. A combination of these makes attachments a problem. Please try to cut and paste your information in the body of the email. If that cannot be done, then by all means send the attachment. I will do what I can to open and store it.
