Hello to all the Hills on the list! My name is Wesley E. Hill. My Hills I believe originated in Connecticut. My gggGrandfathers' name was Johnson Silas Hill, born in CT in 1782 according to the NY state census for Essex county. He also shows up in the 1810 Federal census for Elisabethtown, Essex county, NY. He also went by his middle name "Silas". Essex county land records refer to him as "Johnson", and his tombstone inscription at Black Creek Cemetary in Westport, NY reads:"Johnson S. Hill". He died at age 86 on July 7, 1868. Who his parents were or where they lived is not known exactly, I presume it was Connecticut. Johnson Hill was married twice, once to an unknown first wife, and second to Anna A. Beell who was born in 1806 somewhere in Canada. Where she is buried is not known. She is not buried along side her husband. Johnson Hill had a total of ten children: Silas, b 1818 Charlotte, b 1821 Jane, b 1825 Henry, b 1829 Montraville, b 1830, m Demmis D. ------------- Julia M. b 1832 m Joseph Cherbino 10/21/1848 d 3/19/1903 at Weybridge, VT Edgar Silas (my ggGrandfather), b 1834 m Mary Cherbino 11/15/1854 d 1905 at Chetopa, KS (?) Ion (perhaps Ian) Isaiah Sarah A. b 1847 m William F. Gregory of Westport, NY 1/26/1865 Without vital records its impossible to tell what happened to the other children. I would very much like to find out what happened to them, and I would like to go back further In Johnson Hill's line. Is anyone out there working on New York and Vermont Hills? Does anyone have lines that take them into CT, NY, or VT? I would appreciate any advice or info. Thanks, Wesley Hill I
