    1. Searching for an ancestor in the Colonial Period

    3. The A.I.S. (Accelerated Indexing System) are several sets of microfiche searches over the period of 1600 through 1850. The LDS maintain this set in their Family History Centers and it is in alphabetical order by surname. It is a type of census taken from various town records and since there are several searches over this 250 year period you can locate a person in the town to which they immigrated and in the next time period locate them again where they may have migrated. The town records could be about taxes, freeman or voter records, census, etc. Once you find the person in a certain town then you go to the LDS www.familysearch.org database and search in the LIBRARY portion under PLACE for the town. You can then order microfilms of the tax records, voting records, etc. on this town to document where your ancestor lived.
