Can anyone tell me the reason for the title of "Captain" for John Fletcher HILL? He was born in 1817 the son of Rev. James HILL and Precious STOKES. Is it an honorary title? Was he in the "Home Guards" or Senior Reserves during the Civil War because he would have been in his 40s then. He had a brother Sgt. James HILL who served and died in the War Between the States. Perhaps he was in the war with Mexico? Thank You. Ray Smith
