    3. Maxine, there was a big family of Hills down in Dobbs, Lenoir and I think Green Cos. in NC. Dobbs no longer exists, but you can go to http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/dobbs/voters/1779.txt and find 3 Hills on the voter list for 1779. I have never been able to tie these to my Hills, but it could help someone else. Try looking at the other counties I mentioned, also. The one below is the 1790 census. It has Hills, too. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/dobbs/census/1790cens.txt Iris Hill Brown HILL-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: HILL-D Digest Volume 06 : Issue 86 Today's Topics: #1 L. Burton/Elberton/Burt Hill ca 1825-1900 Johnston and Wake & Cumberland Cos. NC I will post yet again, and hope for a little info. My ggrandfather, Burt Hill, shows up in Johnston Co., NC in the 1850 census, and was married that same year. Before that I have no clue about his parents siblngs or anyone. I have his Civil War record and that he applied for a pension. Of course, there is the folk lore of Bert was a Native American and changed his name, but since every family has one, I don't put much stock in it. Looking for information on my direct ancestor named Wise Hill b. ca. 1715, parents and wife unknown. D. between 1994 - 1800 in Carteret County, N. C. Known children were Peter Hill I, Henry, John and Hannah. He was in Carteret County in j1745 when he appeared in the county court to make oath that there were six white persons in his family. He appeared in a muster return of the Carteret militia, with john, in 1754. In 1758 and 1763 he sesrved on a grand jury and in 1761 and 1762 received grants of land on Jumping Run and Williston Creek. He was living as late as 1794 when he gave property to his daughter, Hannah Styron. I once was told that he was born at Creektown in Carteret County which no longer exists, but I have not been able to find it on any map. Also, he was found on a "list of tithables Northhampton County, Virginia. 1730 - 1742.'" My line is Peter Hill I b. ca. 1740 - 1750 in Carteret County, d. ca. 1815 Carteret County. Known children were Peter Hill II (my line), John and probably others. His wife was named Nancy, maiden name unknown. Peter Hill II m. 6 July 1816 to Sidney Rose I and they had six known children. Peter was a carpenter and boatwright. He served in the War of 1812 as a private in the militia company commanded by Captain William Nelson which was raised for the defense of Core Banks against the depredations of the British during the summer of 1813. Any help would be appreciated. Maxine Hill Olson __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
