It does provide results, just not personally to each participant. The yDNA database is searchable and the mtDNA is supposed to be online sometime this year. An autosomal DNA database will be the last one. Once you have your results from a company like FTDNA, then you search their database(s) for matches. For example, I have paid for my test, but have submitted my brother's sample to the free project. When all of these are uploaded and updated I can verify my results and also search for potential matches. We want as many people to submit DNA as possible, so those with fixed incomes who cannot find sponsors for their particular surname project should submit to the Sorenson project.
