    2. >From the Heritage Book of Cherokee North Carolina Volume 1, 1987 "Hill- One of the earliest lines if the family in England is believed to have been that of Robert D. Hill, who claimed to have gone into England with William the Conqueror in 1066. He is believed to have been the father of Robert, who was the father of Thomas of the County of Cornwell and William of Shropshire, of whom the latter is said to have been the father of William, who had a son Thomas, who was the father of a Thomas, who is said to have been the ancestor of Sir Rowland Hill, Lord Mayor of London. It is not definitely known from which of the many illustrious branches of the family in England the first emigrants of the name to America were descended, but it is generally believed that all of the Hills were of ancient origin and, in many cases, of common ancestry at a remote period. One of the first of the name in America was John Hill of Plymouth, Mass. in 1630. Many others of the name emigrated to America in the eighteenth century. Among them a Dr. Richard Hill who married Deborah Moore of Maryland in 1720. Richard and other descendants of these and probably other branches of the family in America have including other states to North Carolina and have aided as much in the the growth of the country as their ancestors aided in the founding of the nation. They have been noted for their energy, industry, integrity, piety, perserverence, patience, resourcefulness, initiative, courage, loyalty and leadership. Richard who lived in Lunenburg county, VA later Bedford County, VA died 1768, married Dorcal Moberly, son William died 1790, sons Abel, Aasph, and Richard.
