I have been researching the 1850 & 1860 MS. Census for a good while looking for my gggrandfather Joseph William Hill b.abt. 1842 in Marshall County, MS. His CSA pension appl stated he was born there in Holly Springs. I have looked thru both census looking for him. If his father had died prior to 1850 would he be listed as a Hill? If his mother remarried what do you do in a situation like that? Don't laugh, I think I know, any ideas? Beau
