In the Charleston, SC Post and Courier, dated July 29, 1929 a weekly series "Charleston's Past" has the following info:: jULY 29 1732: The city is in the midst of a yellow fever epedemic. Those who can flee the city; all business comes to a halt. The many funerals keep the bells of the churches ring constantly, depressing the city. Eventually the city prohibits their ringing. With the cooler weather of September, the epedemic ends, but not before and estimated 7 percent of the population succumbs to it. This yellow fever epedemic may be of interest to the list because many ships disembarked immigrants in Charleston.
