    2. Hello again fellow subscribers: Just a word of caution. Anytime you receive a web page address (URL) printed in the text of a Rootsweb list message (or any genealogy email), this is usually a research location on the web that someone has referred you to. Though almost all of these locations on the web are safe (ie. County Records, Library of Congress, Surname sites, etc.), you should still exercise caution whenever you go to any website. Where you choose to go on the web is not something that this list or Rootsweb can control. As with all email and websites, PLEASE take the basic steps to protect yourself. Here are those basic guidelines that we should all know by now: -NEVER open an attachment you know nothing about and if in doubt, email the "sender" to make sure that they are actually trying to send you something. -ALWAYS update your virus software (i.e.. once a week is best) and ALWAYS scan any files before opening. For all the latest on viruses and word on some of the new ones mentioned on several Rootsweb lists today: Go to: <http://www.mcafee.com> Of particular interest is the information on the "Messagemates", "Baby" or "W32/NewApt" worm, which YOU CANNOT get from this list, and YOU CANNOT be infected with if you follow the most basic precautions that we have all been well-advised of for years. Have a safe holiday and a virus-free New Year! Byron Hill HILL List
