    3. Hello, I have noticed something lately, and thought I could make a suggestion, probably to more than one list..... Is it possible that we could be more aware that we will get much better response to our postings if we will be sure to list the place (i.e..GA, NC, VA, PA, OH, etc..) and the times (or an approximate...abt/c.. ..1800/10, etc) of our search? It would help to have it listed early in the posting. Of course it would be much better if we could put this in our Subject line: John Jones, NY>PA>IL>AR, c1850-1900, or: John Jones, AR; or even: Jones fam.1800's..PA. This will give us an area to expect the posting to involve. This is especially important in some lists...and very helpful to each other. When I see a heading that seems to be one I can help, I will pay special attention....otherwise, I have learned to "skim" and delete if I don't see the region or time frame quickly. I have had days when I get well over 500 messages...I'm very happy to share ideas and information-- including sources--with anyone who can use it; and I will always give my proof or tell if it's a "likely but not proven"; I also make note of certain names and times in the places I'm researching, and let that person know if I happen to see something I think might help their search. Many of us do the same thing, and I've had some long-standing puzzles solved by someone's generous help. I'm on several lists, and some of them are very large; sometimes it requires good detective work to find out which region of the country we are being asked about; often it just doesn't seem to be worth the effort. Lately I've noticed that I've had to read to the end of the message before I find a date or a region/state involved...these I just delete. Some messages seem to not have it at all...just a name! I realize I will probably be flamed terribly for this, but it seems to be getting worse and worse, so maybe it's worth it. I've been researching for 30 years, and I'm afraid e-mail has caused us to become a little careless in our quests. Remember please, some of our names (lists) are very large...where we are especially in need of trying to remember to do this. Hope we all have a happy and successful search, Doris MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
