I just thought I would mention that there is no such motto that anyone could call "the" Hill family motto. Various families (usually only those families with social status and wealth) all over Europe made family flags, crests, and had slogans or mottos. There is no one motto that applies to the HILL family or any other family. The family crest is fairly worthless today as far as authenticity goes. The sale of such items today in the hobby of genealogy is even considered by most to be highly questionable. Who knows which HILL family had what on their crest, and it seems unlikely that anyone would ever know for sure which HILL family from that period (the period during which these crests were used) they were descended from anyway. I always tell people that if they want a family crest, they are just as entitled (as people were then) to make their own. It might mean more to design their own for your own family line, and present it that way, as something you created. If you find out more about the history behind the motto you mentioned, please let me know. Just food for thought. Byron Hill
