HILL Hunters: Still trying to make connections to my Randall HILL and spouse Luisa (Louisa?) and family who show up on early TN tax lists and Census in Jefferson and Sevier Counties before 1830 until 1850s. Precious little is known of this TN family. Their daughter Rebecca Ann HILL (b. TN c. 1832) md. widower GREENBERRY HANCE in 1847 and they moved to Pulaski Co. MO by 1850. Three more children recorded: George Washington HANCE (1848 TN), Mary Ann HANCE (1850-1 MO), and James Randall HANCE (1855 MO). Family legend states these HILL, HANCE, LAIGHT families were connected. My southern lines not only include these given names of GREENBERRY but PERMELIA, Parthenia/Parthena, and other popular names of the time and region. Surnames of LAIGHT, SANDERS, GAGE, RUTLEDGE, McCay/McCOY, ECTOR, BARNES, WILLIAMS, REDDICK of SC, VA, TN, GA, AL, MS. Connected to Hale, Birdwell, Jones, Woods, Simrell, Davis, Sarott, Denton, Bunch, Belton, Hufft, James, Roberts, Hubble, Griffin, Brown, McCourtney. Also, what is a "burned" county, referring to Cocke Co., TN? Can anyone help? I'm exploring the possibility that I am descended from Jenny, who I think married William SMITH and moved to Cocke Co., TN in the 1830's. Cocke Co., TN is a burned county. >------- 2 Permelia Elizabeth MITCHELL b: 1791 d: 1876 in Clay Co., AL >---------- +William KNIGHT
