    1. [HILL-L] Jacob Hill from Lehigh Co., PA

    3. Need information re Jacob Hill, born circa 1782 in Pennsylvania and wife Catharine, born circa 1789 in Pennsylvania. Two family letters written in 1930 tell of Jacob and family moving from Lehigh County, Pennsylvania to Seneca County, Ohio in 1823 and to Kosciusko County, Indiana in 1839. Children are given as James, Charles, Rhuben, Daniel, William, Elizabeth, Christiana (Anna), and Melinda. I have verified family history starting with Federal Land Patent issued 24 April 1820 for land in Seneca County, Ohio and deed recorded 13 November 1823 on to Jacob's death on 15 September 1842 in Kosciusko County, Indiana. Jacob's will names his three daughters and sons Charles, Rhuben and William. Descendants for these six children are known in Kosciusko County. Problems being researched: 1. Place of birth of Jacob. Son Charles in 1880 Federal Census gives Pennsylvania as birth place of father and mother. 2. Place of birth and family name of Catharine. An elderly Hill descendent (now deceased) thought name was Catharine Block. Another Hill descendent (B. Eldora Priebe Crawford) published in 1979 a largely undocumented pedigree giving Jacob's wife as Catharine Rider. This was based on a Record of Birth and Baptism for James Hill, born 27 December 1806 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County (Lehigh County in 1812), Pennsylvania, son of Jacob Hill and Catharine Rider. Baptism witnessed by grandparents Frederic Hill and wife Mary. 3. Evidence that Jacob had a son James and that the above record is for his son. There was a James Hill in Seneca County and Kosciusko County but unable to definitely connect to Jacob. 4. Evidence that Jacob had a son Daniel. No documentation yet found for his existence. 5. Evidence that the Jacob Hill who moved to Seneca County is the Jacob Hill listed in 1820 Federal Census for S. Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (as is Frederick Hill) and is the father of James per 2. above. Any information re the early years of Jacob Hill and his ancestry will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob Weimer.
