    1. Rosena "Rosie" HILL Langdon Ross
    2. I am a far-off relative of Rosena HILL Langdon Ross. She was born on April 24, 1869 in West Virginia (one source indicates Boone County). She had two brothers that I know of: John Fleming HILL and Joseph Scott HILL. She married her first husband, Charles Harry Langdon, around 1889, and they settled in Columbus, Ohio. They had seven children: Mabel, Florence, Harry E., Charles, Scott, Theodore, Monroe. Charles Sr. died between 1910 and 1920 in Columbus, Ohio. Rosie married Everett Ross around 1930. They did not have any children. Rosie died on December 16, 1951 in Columbus. Rosie's brother, John Fleming HILL is my great-great-grandfather and I am trying to find any of Rosie's descendants. Thanks, Daniel Blakemore

If your ancestor even gave a couple of cows, guns, gunpowder, horses, tobacco, etc. to the cause they are eligible for DAR membership. Also if they served in a militia for even a week, member of a Committee on Safety, etc. So, it doesn't surprise me, especially in Virginia, where for the most part men DIDN'T serve in any formal sense since so little of the war was faught here. Have you seen the DAR application or supporting documentation? Janet Hunter

    1. Re: Hill Family of Garrard Co KY
    2. Sherri, we are direct cousins!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isaiah Hill Sr. and Frederick Hill are brothers. They are the s/o Jesse Hill and Jane Southern. Jesse, their father drowned in the Kentucky River in 1836. The death of his wife Jane, is not known at this time. Isaiah and Frederick plus one other brother died on 13 March 1852 from gunpowder wounds from an Evans ally during the Hill-Evans family feud. The story of this feud is told at the library in Lancaster (county seat) to the children and the children from what the librarians have told love to hear this story....it is one of their favorites. Isaiah Hill Sr. was married to Lucy Murphy who is the sister to my 3rd great grandmother Jane Murphy. Jane Murphy was the wife of the above Frederick Hill. Isaiah and Lucy had 13 children and one more seems to have been added to the list. His name is Samuel Tyree Hill, a name that came from the Forest Calico papers. After Isaiah died, Lucy stayed on in Garrard County. Her tombstone was visable in the late 1990's. I have visited the area a number of times since it is only 3 hours away from me and more visits are needed to photograph grave sites and places where the feud took place. your grandfather Randolph was a musician for Landrum's 19th Regiment Kentucky Regulars, Company "E" along with two of his brothers, Isaiah Jr. and Jesse. Randolph was born Feb 1839 along Sugar Creek in the Buckeye Township of Lancaster, Garrard County, Kentucky. Randolph married Annie Cooper in Kentucky and they had a daughter (name unknown) who in turn married a man by the name of Lewis McCulley. Annie lived to be nearly 80 years old near Buckeye Township of Lancaster, Garrard County, Kentucky. Your grandfather at some point moved to Anderson County, Kentucky. Your grandmother, Annie Cooper Hill was borned 1 March 1869 in Kentucky and died 3 December 1900 in Kentucky. This is all the info that I have on Randolph and Annie. Of course the father of the above Jesse Hill who is married to Jane Southern is John Hill Sr. and Sarah "Sally" Crowe/Crow. All of the children born of John and Sarah were born in the Sugar Creek area of the Buckeye Township of Lancaster, Kentucky. I have much more to share and need help filling in the gaps. If you are willing, would like to have whatever info you have on Randolph and I will share with you. I have alot on Frederick Hill since he is my 3rd great grandfather and his descendants....civil war papers, gravesite photos, death certificates, marriage certificates etc. donadagohvi, (until we speak or meet again)singular donna hill horton aka donna ageyv yanasa (buffalo woman)

    1. Searching for an ancestor in the Colonial Period
    2. Margaret Miesterfeld
    3. The A.I.S. (Accelerated Indexing System) are several sets of microfiche searches over the period of 1600 through 1850. The LDS maintain this set in their Family History Centers and it is in alphabetical order by surname. It is a type of census taken from various town records and since there are several searches over this 250 year period you can locate a person in the town to which they immigrated and in the next time period locate them again where they may have migrated. The town records could be about taxes, freeman or voter records, census, etc. Once you find the person in a certain town then you go to the LDS www.familysearch.org database and search in the LIBRARY portion under PLACE for the town. You can then order microfilms of the tax records, voting records, etc. on this town to document where your ancestor lived. 2. Ray H. Smith
    3. Can anyone tell me the reason for the title of "Captain" for John Fletcher HILL? He was born in 1817 the son of Rev. James HILL and Precious STOKES. Is it an honorary title? Was he in the "Home Guards" or Senior Reserves during the Civil War because he would have been in his 40s then. He had a brother Sgt. James HILL who served and died in the War Between the States. Perhaps he was in the war with Mexico? Thank You. Ray Smith
