    1. John HILL & Polly EASTMAN of Wallkill, NY
    2. K Powell
    3. John was born 1734 at Westerly, Washington Co, RI. Polly born 1735 at New Fairfield, CT. I descend from their son John who moved to Tioga/Chemung Co, NY. I have learned some information about other identified children, siblings of my ancestor: Caleb, Marcy, Mary, Tilton Eastman, Ann aka Johanna, Sarah, & Abial Frye Hill. The eldest of these siblings were born in 1750s Dutchess County before the move to Ulster/Orange County. I'd welcome correspondence about any of the above. ______________________________________________________ Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-donate3/

    1. Hill's brother's coffee
    2. Joan Meddaugh
    3. Do any Hill family members out there have a connection to the Hill's brother's coffee people? I understand, the my Hills line does but that is as far as I know about it. The connection that I know about it Chloe Clarke marriage to James Hills of Brookfield, NY in the area of Madison Co. That they had 5 daughters, Lucy, Francie Sarah, Eudocia, and my great grandmother Ellen Amelia Hills Beebe. She married my great grandfather Hiram J. Beebe and had a son William, a daughter Lela and another son James H. Hills. Only Will and Lela married. And it is Will that is my grandfather. The best dates I have are the about the mid 1800's for a time frame. My grand father Will was born in May of 1869 and died in 1934 in Candor, NY. Hiram died in January of 1906 at age 59 so that would make him born 1847 or so. Ellen Amelia was born about that time too I think. So if any one out there can help me learn about the James Hills connection to Hills Brother's Coffee. I sure would appreciate it. Joan Beebe Meddaugh

    1. Nathaniel Hill in Vermont 1823-1893
    2. Still looking for the parents and/or siblings of a Nathaniel Hill who was supposed to have been born in Johnson, Lamoille Co, Vt in 1823. He died in Northfield, Washington Co, VT May 12, 1893. His first appearance on a census that I can find was in 1850 in Montpelier as a farmer, living alone and age 27. He married Rosina Porter in Calais, VT in 1851 and apparently a few years later they moved to Northfield. They had 6 children of whom 5 lived to adulthood. Nathaniel and Rosina divorced or separated after 1865. Neither of them moved from Northfield after that. I looked at town records and vitals for Johnson, VT but can't find anything on this Nathaniel. There are a couple of Hill families in Lamoille Co, that could be his (due to his age at that time) but I don't seem to be able to pinpoint the right one. Is anyone else related to this family? I could use a little advice or help at this point. Thanks, Mary Johnson

    1. Roll Call: Seaneth Hill
    2. Butch Hill
    3. Seaneth Hill, found in the 1860 census for Hall County, GA, is my brick wall. I’m descended from Joseph Hill who is first found in the 1870 census of Hall County, GA. He married Rachel Melinda Staton and there are buried in Hall County in Clermont, Concord Baptist Church. The 1860 census lists Seaneth, age 66; wife Louisa, age 50; children Isaac, 14; Mary, 19, and Robert, 12. There were not many Hill families in Hall County in 1860. Nearby I found a J. Hill, age 23, working on the farm of a Baptist minister and farmer. Age 23 is about right for my G-G-Grandfather Joseph Hill so I’m pretty sure this J. Hill is Joseph. I’ve tracked Eliza Hill in the census for 1870 and 1880. I believe this is the Louisa Hill mentioned above because the neighbors are the same from 1860. In 1870 I find living with Eliza James W. Hill, age 40 who I suspect came home to support his mother after his father passed away. Another son, Samuel M., age 22 is living with them; not sure where he would have been in 1860. Daughter Mary is still home but Isaac is gone. Robert is next door and married to Amanda. James W. served in the Civil War with Joseph Hill, same unit, but I haven’t been able to prove they were brothers. I’ve been unable to locate this family in earlier censuses in North Georgia. I’ve searched every county north, east and west of Hall County and east and south down to Columbia County. Does anyone have any information on Seaneth Hill or any of this family? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Butch Hill

    1. RE: [HILL-L] Roll Call: Green Berry Hill
    2. Carol Kilgore
    3. An occasional roll call is a good idea. I've been on this list for several years. Through it, I learned that the HILL family I'm researching is actually a HILLS family. However, my particular line dropped the "S" following the Civil War. I've stayed on this HILL list in addition to the HILLS list because I imagine some other HILL families might also have had this happen, and I'm hoping to learn more about my family. Briefly, here is my line. Information is sketchy because I don't currently have access to all the names and dates due to a computer crash. I have hard copies and will pull them out if the data here jives with someone else's so we can compare. Ebenezer B. Hills, son of Ebenezer Hills and Mary Brunson. E.B. was born in Connecticut and probably died in Ohio in the mid-1840s. Ebenezer and Mary moved from Connecticut to Watervliet, NY in the early 1800s. Father and son served in the War of 1812 (do not have access to particular unit at this time). Around 1815, E.B. moved to Lewis County, NY. Married Hannah UNKNOWN, but don't know where marriage occurred. E.B. and Hannah had several children. In early 1831, they sold their property in Lewis County and moved to Erie County, OH. I know only two of their children's names. Sophia and James Melvin. Here is where I lose track of E.B. I've been unable to find a record of his death, but he doesn't appear on any records that I've found following the 1840 census. I found Hannah with her daughter Sophia and her family. They moved from Ohio to Michigan to Northern California, where Hannah and Sophia are buried. If I recall correctly, Sophia died in childbirth. This is in the timeframe 1850-1880. James Melvin is my ancestor. James was married to Sarah M. Patch in Erie County, OH. James was born in Lewis County, NY in 1817 and died in (I think) 1867. Sometime between 1845-1850, James and Sarah moved to Louisiana. They lived in three different parishes, but I think rather than moving, the parishes evolved around them: Sabine, Vernon, and Rapides. In the civil war, James and his son Melvin Bruce Hills served in a Louisiana company (militia I think but not sure). M.B. was a private and James was a conscript. James and Sarah had several children. Melvin Bruce is my ancestor, and I have information on most of his children. Another child was Cora Adelia Hills (also born in Ohio) who married Frank Bolgiano. I have information on their line, as well. I don't currently have access to the rest of their children's names, but all were born in Louisiana. I know there was Jesse, Eddie, Sarah (who died as an infant), and Annamore. Melvin Bruce Hills was married to Margaret Elizabeth Taylor, who was born in Mississippi. M.B. was born in Erie County, OH in the mid-1840s, died in Texas. He is the person who dropped the S. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, I would love to hear from you. 3. Jacob Hill and Maria Apollonia Merkel of Windsor Township, Berks County - and their desendants that settled in Westmoreland County. I'm always trying to sort out the sons that moved to Westmoreland and the tales of their Indian troubles - Jonathon Hill and John Peter Hill. Also, the origin of this family doesn't seem to be clear - perhaps because there were several Jacob Hills in Berks. Tom

    2. Ref: Green Hill's gravesite in Hale County, ALA. Carolyn, thanks for much for the above information. I have searched in Greene County all these years for this Hill gravesite. My records show he was Green Hill III, born 5 May 1774 in NC and died 24 May 1830 in Greene Co, ALa. He was the son of Green Hill II and his second wife, Mary Seawell. I have traced my g-g-grandfather, Robert Henry Hill, to Greene County in the early 1830's. I believe the above Green III and Robert Henry were related in some way, but have been unable to find definite proof for which I have been searching for several years. If you are researching this family or know someone there in Alabama who is, I will exchange info. Thanks for this posting. Bettye Waldon

    3. This looks to be Green Hill III, son of Col. (and Rev.) Green Hill, Jr., (1741-1846) and Mary Seawell (1721-1821)? These Green Hills are in the Robert Hill/Mary Webb line. I have Green Hill III listed as being born 5 May 1774, died Sept. 13, 1830 in Green Co., Alabama. Green Hill III is listed as having married Mary Long, daughter of Gabriel Long and Susan Long. Julia Ann Hill is not listed among his known children, but I do not have the source of the information. If it came from his will, if she predeceased her father, she would not be mentioned. The death date is the right year, but slightly different. I have also seen that ones and fours can be mistaken for each other on old tombstones. --- Carolyn Smalley <cssmalley@bellsouth.net> wrote: > We found the gravesites just off Alabama Highway 60 > (on private property). > The gravesites are in bad shape with the tombstones > broken in several > places; however, we were able to make out > information for two of the graves. > If anyone has any questions, my e-mail address is: > cssmalley@bellsouth.net. > Carolyn Strickland Smalley > > > > > > Green Hill > > Born in Franklin County, NC (?) 5, 1771 (Note: we > could not read the month > of birth) > > Died in Greene County, ALA, May 17, 1830 > > > > > > Julia Ann Hill > > Died November 27, 18?? > > Aged 17 (?) years > > > > ==== HILL Mailing List ==== > Attached files are not allowed on this list.
