Hello List: Is there anybody out there familiar with the Moselem Creek area as it was in 1750 or so? I drove through there last summer looking for traces of my "Hill" ancestry. Some sources say that Hills owned a stone mansion that is still standing today. I found three old stone houses there. One was on the creek at the bridge and probably included the mill that's nearby on the road, the other about 100 yards away on a golf course, and the third was on the road farther south a mile or so. People I met said the first two once belonged to the Merckel family. However, given that those families were united in marriage in several ways, one or the other may have once been owned by Hills. I presume they were neighbors at one time. The third house is occupied by a woman that is operating some sort of stables and riding academy, and to my astonishment, she did not have a clue about the former owners.
Seeking descendants of David HILL, born 1804 and died between 1880-1900. He was born in NC and lived in Habersham County, Georgia before moving to White County, Georgia in 1870. He was married to Elizabeth EATON in 1826. I'm particularly interested in what became of his daughter (my ancestor) Minerva HILL who married Malachi FREE in 1853 (Habersham Co.) after Malachi's death.
My ancestor is Joel Hill . His father was Joel Hill Sr. born in 175? Joel Jr.was born in 1784. Joel was recorded in the census in 1800 at Brunswick County, North Carolina. Joel and Elizabeth Souls (the daughter of Joseph F. Souls and Elizabeth Simmons) were married July 25, 1808 at Brunswick County, North Carolina. North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 (Same date there was a Samuel Hill who married Elizabeth Ross... Coincidence??) Other Hills and dates: Joel and Elizabeth had the following children: i. Rebecca Hill ii. Rev. George Washington Hill iii. Leannah Elizabeth Hill iv. Armalin Bryant Hill Joel was recorded in the census in 1810 at Columbus Co, North Carolina. Joel was recorded in the census in 1820 at Columbus Co, North Carolina. Census also shows a Hardy and Aaron who might have been brothers to Joel. Joel was recorded in the census in 1830 at Columbus Co, North Carolina. 1830 Joel was recorded in the census in 1840 at Columbus Co, North Carolina. 1840 Columbus Co, NC Joel died in 1844. It was rumored that Joel had a family before he and Elizabeth married and they lived near Shallotte in Brunswick County. It is said that Joel had a brother named AAron, Samuel, Jessie & his closet in age was Ezekial. He supposedly had a sister named "Polly".Some of the info on Joel's siblings was passed along by the slave, Hardy Hill's decendents, one of his decendents actually was a midwife and delivered some of the Hill children. This is all I have. If anything rings a bell please email me. I am stuck! Thanks, Jennie Bridges
I am researching William Hill who was married to a Susannah. The last reference I found on william and Susannah in Amherst co., was when their daughter Judith married Alexander Lyons, in 1786. Amherst County Marriage Bonds and Other Marriage Records 1763-1800, page 48 and 49. William and Susannah give their consent for Judith Hill to marry Alexander Lyon, October 7, 1786. Some researchers have this William Hill, who was the father of Madison Hill, Elizabeth Hill, and Judith as being married to Susannah Smithers. This could not be correct because Susannah Smithers died in N. C. in 1777. I found a will for Susannah in Amherst co., Va. 1807 Wills of Amherst Co., Va. page 22 G 79 Susannah Gilliland 4:510f. October 15, 1807; Feb. 15, 1808, Wits,: Stephen Rees; Pasey Rees; Betsy Rees; Rebecca Rucker. Proved by Betsy and Stephen Rees. Reuben Norvell qualified Bdm,; Anthony Rucker and Nichl. Garrison. Daughter, Elizabeth Thurmond--land bought of Jas, Wilmore. Daughter, Judith Lyon--land bought of Rich. Padget . Granddaughter, ''Susanna Lyon and granddaughter, Susannah Hill (daughter of my son Maderson). Exrs.: Friends: Reuben Norvell and Jas. Marr. Anyone with any info. please contact me. Thanks, Shirley

Don't usually do this but since I have been sent this virus 8 times today I thought I would let you know: A variant of W32/Sober.gen@MM, W32/Sober@MM!M681 is another mass-mailing worm hiding inside a spam email attachment. When run, the virus displays a fake error message, infects the host computer then sends itself to stolen email addresses. Note: VirusScan users with the latest DAT file are protected from this threat. What should I look for? FROM: Varies SUBJECT: Examples: Registration Confirmation; Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie; hi, ive a new mail address BODY: Example: hey its me, my old address dont work at time. i dont know why?! in the last days ive got some mails. i' think thaz your mails but im not sure! How do I know if I've been infected? Fake error message ("Error in packed Header") displayed. Outgoing messages as noted above. Note: Receiving an email alert stating that the virus came from your email address is not necessarily an indication you are infected. Mass-mailing viruses often forge (or "spoof") the from address.
