Burke County NC Estates, 1776-1934; CR.014.508.26; William Hill, 1801, obtained from the NC State Archives in Raleigh. “Administration Bond of Wm Hills Estat De- illegible [might be ‘Dec’ for Deceased] State of North Carolina Burke County Know all men by these presents that we Elizabeth Hill admintran [administratrix] & John Mullin Archibato [Archibald]-cathey & Abel Simpkins are held and firmly bound to Benjamin William(s), Esq. Governor in the sum of Six hundred pounds to be paid to the Said Benjamin William(s) or his sufcessors Governors for the time being To what [or To which] payment well and truly to be made and done. We bind ourselvez our and [sic] each of our heirs Ececutors [Executors] Administrators and asigns Jointly Severally and firmly by these presents. Sealed and dated this 28th day of July 1801. The condition of the above Obligation is such that whoillegible [?]….letters of administration on the estate of William Hill, Deceased is granted to the above Counties [incorrect word, might be bound in referring to executors]. Also in case the said Eliz ~ Hill + John Mullin doth truly and faithfully administer on all and singular the goods and chattels rights and assets of the Said Deceased that may come Into their hands agreeable to law and a just and true inventory of the Said Estate Return in Burke County within ninety days from the date hereof and duly account with the said court for their due administration. Words & letters that simply cannot be guessed are represented either by the word “illegible” or by a suggested word in brackets. Original spellings, capitalizations, and punctuation retained and letters transcribed as faithfully as possible. Names in square brackets are names of men listed in 1800 Burke County census who might be a match to the names listed in the Estate Bond document (court clerk’s handwriting hard to decipher, especially the names of the signatories which are partially obscured by their ‘marks’). Many thanks to Betsy Pittman, Resident Genealogist specializing in Burke County research analysis for her invaluable help in identifying many of the legal terms and other wording in this document (sight unseen!). I welcome any and all comments or speculations on these documents as to the children (“orfins”) and parents of William and Elizabeth Hill, their dates of birth, siblings, etc. The fact that John Mullins is named co-executor with the widowed Elizabeth suggests he is a close relative--brother, father, or uncle. This William and Elizabeth Hill cannot be the William Hill Jr. b. about 1783 in Burke Co. who marries Nancy Mullins (some say Lyons) b. abt 1786 in Burke/now Mitchell Counties, but it’s tempting to try to connect them in some relation to that William and his brother Swinfield (my GGGG-grandfather). The 1790 Burke Co. census lists a ROBERT HILL [1-1-1-0] in 1st company, and in 10th Company, an area Betsy Pittman says later became Mitchell/Avery Counties, a WILLIAM HILL [2-1-6-0], 2 houses down a WM HILL SR [2-0-1-0], and 3 houses down a JNO MULLINS[1-3-3-0]. [males over 16, males under 16, females over 16, females under 16]. In the 1800 Burke Co. census, a WILLIAM HILL [1-1-0-0-1//2-2-0-1-0//0-0], SWINFIELD HILL [2-0-0-1-0//2-0-1-0-0//0-0] HENRY HILL [1-1-1-0-1//1-1-0-0-1//0-0], and RESH (?) HILL [0-0-1-0-1//3-0-0-0-1//0-0]. There are two JOHN MULLINS and a BAKER MULLINS: John #1 [2-0-1-1-0//2-0-0-0-1//0-0], John #2 [0-0-2-0-0//3-1-0-0-1//0-0], and Baker [4-1-0-1-0//1-0-0-1-0//0-0]. Enumeration date is August 4, 1800. [males 0-10, 10-16, 26-26, 26-45, 45+//females ditto//slaves] Can anyone provide any information on any of these individuals? Has anyone seen other references to the Henry and Resh (?) Hills mentioned in the 1800 Burke census? So many questions, so few facts!     3. Hello! I'm looking for any information about Ruby F. Albright-Hill and Robert Kenneth Hill. Ruby F. was born abt. 1916 to Fred and Wilda Smith-Hill. She had at least the following siblings: Thelma B. abt. 1906 Shirley B. abt. 1908 Anna M. abt. 1910 Violet O. abt. 1911 Halsie F. abt. 1916 Irville D. 1918 Fred was from Germany and spoke both English and German.     3. I have recently discovered a link in my research to the Hill family descending from Charles H. Hill b. 11/14/1837 in Putnam County, Indiana and d. before the 1910 census in Oregon. Charles married Martha Ann Rominger (b. 10/1842) in Indiana - married between 1850-1860. The couple migrated from Indiana > Davis County, Iowa > Sebastian County, Arkansas > Portland Oregon (traced through US Census) The couple had the following children: Paschal - b. 1/1860 - Iowa Estes - b. 11/1862 - Iowa Ella M. - b. c. 1866 - Iowa Charles Jr. - b. 4/1870 - Missouri Albert - b. 1/1877 - Arkansas George Wright - b. 9/1881 - Oregon If this looks familiar to anyone, I have the ancestry of Charles H.     3. Joseph Hill, father of Gideon Hill. Gideon was born in 1766 in New Hampshire. Gideon married Hannah Avery in 1786 in Gilmanton, New Hampshire and died in 1851 in Ellsworth, Grafton, New Hampshire. In 1823 Gideon signed a land deed stating "Joseph Hill late of Ellsworth deceased and the said Gideon being his only son". This tells me that Joseph died, probably in Ellsworth in 1823 or just before. This is the only thing I know about Joseph but I sure would like to know more. I have not been able to find a death record for Joseph. If anyone has any information on Joseph Hill I would very much appreciate your sharing it. Thank you for any help you can give me. Brenda

Much of the information about the Rev. Jacob Hill came from him. Sgt James Hill may have been the James Davis Hill son of Rev. Jacob Hill who was born in Anson Co., NC Dec. 21, 1790, died in Catawba Co. NC June 16, 1855, Catawba County, NC buried at Rehobeth Methodist Cemetery, Catawba County. He married on June 2, 1820 to Mariah (Marie) Davis born March 23, 1800 Mecklenburg County, NC. Died according to tombstone December 29, 1883.She is also buried at Rehobeth Methodist Cemetery. They had 11 children. My line comes from their 5th child William Bramwell Hill born Feb. 28, 1830. James Davis Hill was the 6th child. Now for total confusion. There may have been another Jacob Hill who married a Margaret C. Kistler Oct. 31, 1846, unless the date of death for Mariah Davis was wrong. There is a James Hill from 1700's who married Anne Robinson Mar. 6, 1786. This James was a son of Isaac Hill. Hope some of this helps. Betty Rankin
