    3. Hello List I am new to this list, and am looking for Thomas Hill who was born about 1864 in ether Church Eaton or Church Aston. His father was called John, and he was a farm labourer. In 1881, when he was 17 years old, Thomas may have been working as a farm servant to George W. and Lucy Chell at Stallington, Stone, Staffordshire. I do know that he married Mary Jane Newbon at St James Church Longton Stoke-on-Trent on the 19th September 1887. From then on I have been able to track him, but it is his birth certificate and his early years that Interest me most. Best regards Beryl Lockett -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Well, I am not sure if they are related, but I have submitted a DNA sample which has been identified as "German" in origin, specifically Anglo-Saxon. My results are likely Haplogroup I. I fit into the subclade known as I1a. I am a participant in the HILL DNA Project, http://www.hilldna.com. I'm in Group 27. Ken has done some great background on this at his site http://www.northwestanalysis.net. James was in the same area as the German HILLs at the same time and I don't think these potential connections should be dismissed so easily. 1. BETTIE & TOMMY HILL (MS->TX)
    2. Vaughn Ballard
    3. I'm searching for information on my grandmother, Martha Elizabeth Hill, and her brother, Thomas P. Hill. Bettie was born in Mississippi on December 29, 1876 and Tommy was born in Mississippi 19 December 1878. I remember Grandmother telling us that she was born in Mississippi then, after both parents died, she and her younger brother came to Texas to live with an uncle in Nacogdoches County. My younger brother remembered her mentioning coming from Tupelo, Mississippi. The uncle in Texas must have died between1890 and 1900. Grandmother went to live with friends, the Doak Crawford family, who lived north of Appleby, TX near the Holly Springs community. I interviewed Doak Crawford’s son, ’Little’ Doak, in 1983. He told me that grandmother’s uncle was named Caldwell. He added that Bettie was a Caldwell. I challenged that and he then said Bettie’s mother was a Caldwell. That’s possible. The 1880 census of Lee Co., MS, shows the family of Wm. T. Hill, 28, in hh140. Also shown are his wife Susan, 25; and their children, Bettie, 3 and Thomas, 1. The ages of Bettie and Thomas match the information I had about Grandmother and Uncle Tommy. In the household next door, hh 141, there was E.G. Hill, 71 and Sarah M.S., 68. In 1870 census of Lee Co., MS there is an Edwin G., 61; Martha, 59; and their children Albert G., 23, Wm. T., 19 and Julia A, 16. In 1860 in Pontotoc Co., MS there was this same family, Edwin G. 51 and Sarah M.S., 49; with the same children, Albert, W.T. and Julia A., plus four older children, George W., 23; Frances S., 21; Mary E., 18; and Richard J, 16. A logical assumption here is that Edwin G. and Sarah Martha S. Hill are the parents of William T. Hill and the grandparents of Bettie and Thomas. George W., Richard J, and Albert G. Hill are candidates for the uncle in Texas where Bettie and Tommy went to live. I discussed these findings with Uncle Tommy’s son, Thomas Parker Hill III. He said His father, Thomas Parker Hill, Jr. was from Aberdeen, Monroe Co., MS. I have found no documentation to support Little Tommy’s Information except that his fathers tombstone reads, “Thomas Parker Hill, Jr.” Census data shows “Thomas P. Hill.” Knowing the maiden names of Edwin G.'s wife, Sarah Martha S., and Wm. T.'s wife, Susan, might help. Edwin and his wife were born in Virginia. Is anyone on this list researching any of these families? Vaughn

SMGF is making their collection available for searching on this web site. Finding matching DNA results and pedigrees in the Sorenson Database can help you make new family connections throughout the world and across generations. The Foundation is a world leader in DNA research with direct application to genealogy. Their work complements other studies that focus on the "deep ancestry" of humankind. SMGF was inspired by discussions in 1999 between philanthropist James LeVoy Sorenson and BYU Professor Scott Woodward about using DNA in genealogy. Since that time, SMGF has collected more than 60,000 DNA samples, together with four-generation pedigree charts, from volunteers in more than 100 countries around the world. Y-chromosome DNA results and pedigree charts are available for searching in the Sorenson Database. Y-DNA results and pedigrees help you trace your direct paternal line. SMGF plans to release the Sorenson Mitochondrial Database in the second half of 2006. mtDNA results and pedigrees can help you trace your direct maternal line. The Foundation is also conducting research on autosomal DNA, and plans to release the Sorenson Autosomal Database in the near future. Autosomal DNA results and pedigrees can help you trace both family lines. "I can't think of anything that matters more than reminding people everywhere that in a very real sense, we are all brothers and sisters," says Mr. Sorenson about our genetic connections. We invite you to participate in the SMGF project and search the Sorenson Database. Help grow the genetic family tree, one branch at a time. _________________________________________________________________ Search on the go: Try Windows Live(tm) Search for Mobile beta http://www1.imagine-msn.com/minisites/mobile/Default.aspx?locale=en-us

    3. It does provide results, just not personally to each participant. The yDNA database is searchable and the mtDNA is supposed to be online sometime this year. An autosomal DNA database will be the last one. Once you have your results from a company like FTDNA, then you search their database(s) for matches. For example, I have paid for my test, but have submitted my brother's sample to the free project. When all of these are uploaded and updated I can verify my results and also search for potential matches.
