    1. [HILL-L] Rockingham County Hills
    2. Daniel Ratledge
    3. Dear Bob, I am a Hill from Rockingham County. My g-g-grandfather was a farmer in Mayfield with a rather substantial farm. He was Alfred A. Hill. He married Martha "Patty" A. Smith on 03-07-1876. My grandfather, Alfred David Hill, used to say he got his nose and dark skin from Indian heritage. I checked the Dawes Commision at Ancestry.com and there were several Martha Smiths listed. I do not know how to find out if any of them could be my g-g-grandmother. I will keep checking. Alfred's father, Thomas W. Hill married Louisa Burch (Birch) on 03-31-1834 in Pittsylvania County, VA. I have not found out anything else on Thomas except he may have come to America from Ireland with two brothers. The brothers went west. If you or anyone else has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. I would love to know where to go from here. Sincerely, Tammy Hill Ratledge

Please contact me if you are as I have a new contact in TX who is also descended from Dr. Green Washington Hill through his son, G. W. Hill, Jr. If Joe isn't still part of this list, could someone who may have his email please send it to me? Thanks! 2. Sorry to post this to the list, but my direct mail to her came back. Lisa Anne, I know I have contacted you before, but I am pretty sure I have a definite connection now. I went to the library, and copied the probate file for Thomas Hill, and strongly believe that the signatures of one of his sons is Williams. My Williams Hill was in Spartanburg Co. Cross Anchor area which is very close to Cross Keys, where Bird Hill's probate file list his land. Thomas' probate states that his land is adjacent to Bird's. I have a little more info on some of the children of Thomas and Miriam, from a few books, and Bird's probate. I can also send you decendents of Williams if you are interested and think this is the same Williams. take care, Lisa

    3. Hi, I'm temporarily subscribing to post this to the list so feel free to contact me directly on this will. Starting with the 1810 census there were two Joel Hill's in Madison KY: Sr & Jr. My g+grandmother, Lucy Hill married William L. Wayne in 1812 (don't have my notes in front of me) and listed was Joel Hill father on the bond. A very nice person at the Eastern Kentucky Archives was kind enough to send me a copy of the will when I inquired as how to go about getting a copy. This will established he was the father of my Lucy Wane, as spelled in the will, and gave me a bef. death date for her. Not only did I read this with a magnifying glass but also scanned the will and used both images to decipher as best as I could each word. Where there are question marks I guessed. If you believe you have the answer to my ? please let me know.
