I am trying to find a connection to John HILL born in North Carolina. He was living in Tipton County, Tennessee. The 1870 census shows that a female named M. Hutchinson was living with him and his wife Eliza and their children. She was listed as being 39 and insane. She may have been born mentally impared or something happened to her later in life. But most likely the family was taken care of her. She was also born in North Carolina. Does anyone have a connection between the Hutchinson and HILL family that came from North Carolina and settled in Tennessee. Connie

Isaac Lafayette HILL, b. 2/11/1814 Jasper Co., GA, went to TX 1834 with his Uncle Asa Hill. Isaac L. married three times, his first wife was Jerinand Matthews Ballstile. Does anyone have anything on this first wife? I have no dates or places of birth/death, where she and Isaac married, nor do I know what became of her or where she is buried. Isaac L. married his second wife, Frances Lloyd, in 1845 in Austin, TX, so I'm assuming Jerinand died prior to that date. His second wife Frances died Dec. 26, 1857 and is buried in the Hill cemetery next to Isaac in Round Top, TX. They had eight children I know of in their 12 yrs. of marriage. Isaac married the third time to Laura Virginia Gant sometime after 1858. Does anyone know anything of Laura? When/where she was born/died, whether she remarried after Isaac's death, and what became of their daughters, Laura "Lollie" Hill, and Betsy "Bessi" Hill? Any info is welcomed. In regards to census research: If your ancestor's mother remarried, I would suggest you check the 1850 and 1860 census index for her husband's surname. You should also look in the index for her childs surname. If you do not find either one of them listed, then search through the complete census record for that particular county. If you still have trouble finding them, then check the index for the surrounding counties, and it may be necessary to search everyone with that surname listed in the index for the entire state. I find that the index to the census records often contain errors, the most common being the wrong spelling of a surname. It is also possible to find the wrong county listed as their place of residence, or the wrong page number. Generally, the child should be listed under his own surname, and not his stepfathers. However, use caution, as I did find my husband's great grandfather listed in the 1870 census of Wood County, Texas under his stepfather's last name. I have been researching the 1850 & 1860 MS. Census for a good while looking for my gggrandfather Joseph William Hill b.abt. 1842 in Marshall County, MS. His CSA pension appl stated he was born there in Holly Springs. I have looked thru both census looking for him. If his father had died prior to 1850 would he be listed as a Hill? List Members, I am still searching for information about William and Hescenia Smallwood Hill. They probably died in Sullivan, Monroe or Claiborne County Tennessee between 1835 and 1859. They had at least one son, Greenberry Hill. Greenberry Hill married Lucy Ann Christian. Greenberry and Lucy Ann moved to Franklin county, Illinois, in about 1859. They both are buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, close to Valier, IL. Most of their children came to Illinois at about the same time and also are buried in the same vicinity.
