    1. [HILL-L] George Hills - Connecticut
    2. Hi, I am at a brick wall with my family tree and am hoping someone may be able to help. I am looking for the parents of George Hills born about 1809/1810 in Connecticut. He married a Roxanna Pease in 1834. They had a child George Newton Hills in 1836. George and Roxanna must have divorced between 1842 and 1847, at first I thought he had died because I found her remarriage, but then I located his second marriage to Cynthia Pease in 1849. >From census data I was able to keep track of him to 1860 living in Enfield alone age 50. I have checked the death records and birth records and have been unable to locate either. His son George Newton Hills married prior to 1860 a Laura A.S. and had one child, Charles Wiliam Hills in Longmeadow, Mass. He remarried Elizabeth Burlingame in 1864 and had an unnamed child, Lewis Seymore Hills, Morton B. Hills, Edward Carptenter Hills, Angelina Thayer Hills, Delbert Moon Hills, and Hattie M. Hills. The family lived in Longmeadow, then moved to Westfield, Mass. Any help greatly appreciated.

    1. Re: [HILL-L] INDIAN PROBLEMS IN EAST TENNESSEE AFTER THE REV. WAR 1781-1782
    2. Steve and Barbara
    3. Ray, "The Annals of Tennessee" by RAMSEY is a great source of the early years of Tennesee, taking it thru the years from the time it was discovered until 1800. The stories in this book , and all true documented stories, sound worse than any fiction book you could ever imagine concerning the atrocities that the early settlers of Tennessee faced with the Indians. This book was written in the mid 18th century, but should be in many large libraries. I have a copy on my bookshelf and I refer to it often. The Indian Problem basically went from the north extents of the state all the way to the South extents of the state in this Rev. War. Time period. Many of these problems were over boundary lines. At this time there were still many Old indian towns in the Tennessee Valley. Thanks Steve Smith Claiborne County, Tn. -----Original Message----- From: E. 3. The Dismukes mailing list has an entry dated 18 Oct 1996 which lists the following children for Sion L. Hill and Frances Dismukes. Can anyone Verify any of the information, or make corrections? I have added my own notes below each entry posted to the Dismukes list. Please help, by contacting me if you have any information. 1. Mary Ann Hill, born 5 Oct 1819, married Thomas Speller. The Harris County, Ga., web site lists the following marriage date for Mary Ann Hill and Thomas Speller: 20 Dec 1827 in Harris Co., Ga. If this marriage date is correct, then she cannot be the daughter of Sion L. Hill and Frances Dismukes. There is a deed recorded in Chambers County, Alabama on 5 September 1842 between Thomas Speller and wife Mary Ann L. Speller to Sion L. Hill of Harris County, Ga. 2. Bethena Pauline Hill born 11 July 1824, married George D. Richardson. The Harris County, Ga. Web site lists the following marriage date for Bethana W. (not Pauline) Hill and George D. Richardson: 11 July 1838 in Harris County, Ga. George D. Richardson was the witness to a deed between Sion L. Hill and Newman Golden dated 11 Jan 1847 in Chambers County, Alabama. 3. Lucinda L. Hill, born 23 Oct 1833, married John Wesley Talley. 4. Roxina Hill, born 5 March 1822, married Able F. Nelson. Harris County, Ga., web site lists the following marriage date for Rotina Hill and Able F. Nelson: 10 Dec 1839 in Harris County, Ga. 5. Nancy J. Hill, married Mr. Howard, and Mr. Gilbert. Lived in Texas. This information is in agreement with what I have on Nancy Hill, except that all of the documents I have on Nancy, list her middle Initial as D. not J., and she is my husband's ancestor. She married William B. Howard 17 October 1844 in Chambers County, Alabama. Sion L. Hill was a security for the marriage bond. After the death of William B. Howard (about 1863, probably in Coosa County, Alabama where his Estate was settled) Nancy married Isaac Gilbert and moved to Wood County, Texas, where the family is listed in the 1870 census. 6. Francis Hill, born 1841, married Quincey Hunter. Frances E. Hill, age 19, is listed in the household of Scion L. Hill and Wife Frances during the 1860 census of Macon County, Alabama. Eufaula Weekly Times and News, 1885: Mrs. Sion L. Hill, an aged Widow, died at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Q. C. Hunter, of this place On the 25th inst.-Ozark Star, of 31st. 7. Georgia A. Hill, married B. W. Williams. Georgia A Hill, age 21, is listed in the household of Scion L. Hill and Wife Frances during the 1860 census of Macon County, Alabama. 8. Betty (Dink) Hill married Worthy. The 1840 census for Harris County, Georgia would seem to indicate that there are several sons of Sion L. Hill that have not been identified. I have a deed between Sion L. Hill and wife Frances, and Harrison Tate dated The 27th January 1845, in Chambers County. The Harris County, Ga. Web site Lists a marriage between Harriston Tate and Mariah E. Hill dated 26 November 1838. Can anyone identify Mariah? Is she the daughter of Isaac Hill? Sincerely, Patricia Laird Howard

    1. [HILL-L] John Hill & Sara Parham
    2. (I sent this post last night to the group but accidently used a wrong email. I'm not sure the list got it so am sending again) I have a couple of questions for the other researchers of the Isaac Hill, Sr., b. 1748 line. I was recently asked by someone about one of Isaac's sons, John J. Hill, b. 1785, m. Sarah Parham. He asked me where I found the middle initial "J" as he had only seen this son referred to as John Hill in all his research. I quickly scanned through some of my documents and books, and was unable to find where the "J" came from. Does anyone have a reliable source for this? If not, I will take out the "J" until one is found. (I know I got from somewhere) Secondly, I sent off for a lookup for Jasper Co., GA for information on John Hill and Sarah Parham. I have the date of their marriage as Nov. 27, 1806 in Hillsboro, Jasper Co., GA. The volunteer wrote back saying she could find nothing on them, and "...the marriage that you mention could not have been in Jasper County - the county didn't form until 1808 and the Hill-Parham marriage isn't recorded in the 1808-1820 marriage book." Any ideas on this? What was the closest town/county where the marriage might have been recorded in 1806? Has anyone on the list actually found the marriage documented somewhere? Thanks, Jackie _______________________________________________________ Get your free, private email at http://mail.excite.com/

    1. [HILL-L] William Hill and Barney Hill
    2. I have posted this before, but thought I would try again. I am looking for the ancestors of two lines of Hills: 1. WILLIAM HILL (c.1735-c.1791) lived on Buffalo Island Creek in Rockingham Co. NC in the mid 1700's. Wife - HANNAH BRIDGES. Sons included Thomas (1759-1849), John, James (1761-1833), Jacob, and perhaps Joab (1775-1841). Other Hill's living on adjacent property on Buffalo Island Creek were Gustavas Hill and his wife, Charity, and John Hill. William, Gustavas and John may have been related. 2. BARNEY HILL (1804-1849) was the first of the Hill family to come to Roane County, TN. Wife - NANCY GREEN MILLICAN. His children were all born in Roane County and include: Isaac Alexander Hill (1844-1916) William Columbus Hill John Nelson Hill (1848- ) Elizabeth Hill James Moses Hill (1849-1889) Barney Hill was listed in the 1840 census for Bradley Co., TN. It has been suggested that Barney Hill's mother may have been a Barnett, hence his name. If anyone has information on the ancestors of either WILLIAM HILL or BARNEY HILL, I would appreciate hearing from you. For more information on the descendants of these two Hill lines, you can check my web page at http://hometown.aol.com/chuicy/index.html Charles Massey Chattanooga, TN

    1. [HILL-L] Joseph Hill, b. ca 1779 Union District SC
    2. Since there has been msg traffic on the Union District SC Hills, thought I would try mine again. I have a Rev Joseph Hill b. ca 1779 Union District, SC. d. before 8 Feb 1875, Coosa Co., AL., baptized about 20 years old, ordained to the ministry ca 1812, TN, came to AL ca 1816/1817. I have no paper trail except the above statement taken from a book on early Souther Baptist preachers. I can not place him in Union District SC. There could possible be two wives. First would have been an Elizabeth & the second is a Sarah A. listed in the 1850 census data. Because of the age difference of this Sarah, & Joseph, I assume her to be a second wife. Children: J. Westle Hill, mentioned in the estate settlement. There is a Westly Hill in the 1830 St. Clair Co., AL census, along with his father Joseph Hill. No further info. James Hill, mentioned in the estate settlement. No further info. Tabitha Hill, m. 5 Aug 1828, St Clair Co., AL, John Dollar. Tabitha was deceased at the time of the estate settlement, 1876. Malinda Hill, b. ca 1808, m. 29 Dec 1834 Talladega Co., AL. Dennis S. Dodd. This family moved back to SC & can be found in Census data in Pickens Co. SC. John Hill, mentioned in the estate settlement, No further info. Nancy Hill, b. ca 1824, m. 30 Dec 1860 Coosa Co.AL, William Ray This family can be found in Elmore Co., AL Joseph Hill, b. ca 1833, no further info Elizabeth Hill, b. ca 1834, m. 29 Dec 1854 Coosa Co.,AL., James Alfred Cranford. Elizabeth & James continued to live in the Coosa Co. area. James died shortly after the civil war, & Elizabeth drew a pension. I can't locate her after 1899. Susan Hill, b. ca 1836 was mentally challenged. William Ray was appointed her legal guardian, & she lived with Wm & her sister Nancy in Elmore Co., AL. LittleberryHill. b. ca 1838, served in the Civil War. Referred to as L.B. Hill. No info after the war. Sarah A. Hill, b. ca 1840, Joseph Hill & family appears in the 1830, St Clair Co. AL census. A couple of books on St. Clair Co. cite that Joseph was a preacher & started a couple of churches in the area. He went from St. Clair into Talladega Co. & there sold land on 3 Nov 1835 & moved into Coosa Co. AL. where he remained. He is mentioned a couple of times in Brewer's "History of Coosa Co." He was pastor ot the Antioch Baptist Church, Coosa Co., AL by the fall of 1836. Joseph appears in all the census as living in Coosa Co. up to the time of the estate settlement in 1875, which is on file in the courthouse in Rockford. He was almost a 100 years old when he died.
