I believe they were born in Adams Co. PA. John married Sarah Elise Boyd and moved to Monore Co. Ohio and from there I have the entire line. Can anyone fill in before Joseph, who is my great-great-great grandfather. chrisroberts@home.com

    1. [HILL-L] 1850 MS. Census for Marshall Co Northern Division Pg. 371
    2. Woody Hill
    3. I was researching the census today, when I came across a record that I thought was unusual. Does anyone have any information on this family. The family was listed under the dwelling of 1280 which had the head of household as a Josiah Deloach. The person I was looking up was Mary. I have been hunting my gggrandfather for over a year. I know he lived in the Northern Division in 1850. His CSA pension app said he was born in Marshall Co abt 1842. I was not able to find him listed as Joseph William Hill. I suspect he might be Lucian W. ( I know that's stretching it, but what if his real name was Lucian?) The state of birth could be wrong could have been recorded wrong also (stretching it even farther.) But hey this is what rootsweb is all about, maybe someone can put this hunch to bed. I checked the 1860 Lucian is not listed on it, nor my gggrandfahter. I will do my best to transcribe the information that was on it. I hope someone has something on it. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1280 1280 Josiah Deloach 43 M Blank Blank Blank Tenn Oliva Deloach 42 F " 7000 " Tenn Mary F. They had William H. Hill residing there age 23. I was wondering if might be related to this family and there working. Yes I'm grabbing at straws but I'm getting frustrated trying to find my gggrandfather, he is invisible in MS. I hope that someone out there can help me solve this riddle so I don't waste many hours trying to run down a dead end. Thanks again Woody

    1. [HILL-L] Excerpts from Heritage Book
    2. >From the Heritage Book of Cherokee North Carolina Volume 1, 1987 "Hill- One of the earliest lines if the family in England is believed to have been that of Robert D. Hill, who claimed to have gone into England with William the Conqueror in 1066. He is believed to have been the father of Robert, who was the father of Thomas of the County of Cornwell and William of Shropshire, of whom the latter is said to have been the father of William, who had a son Thomas, who was the father of a Thomas, who is said to have been the ancestor of Sir Rowland Hill, Lord Mayor of London. It is not definitely known from which of the many illustrious branches of the family in England the first emigrants of the name to America were descended, but it is generally believed that all of the Hills were of ancient origin and, in many cases, of common ancestry at a remote period. One of the first of the name in America was John Hill of Plymouth, Mass. in 1630. Many others of the name emigrated to America in the eighteenth century. Among them a Dr. Richard Hill who married Deborah Moore of Maryland in 1720. Richard and other descendants of these and probably other branches of the family in America have including other states to North Carolina and have aided as much in the the growth of the country as their ancestors aided in the founding of the nation. They have been noted for their energy, industry, integrity, piety, perserverence, patience, resourcefulness, initiative, courage, loyalty and leadership. Richard who lived in Lunenburg county, VA later Bedford County, VA died 1768, married Dorcal Moberly, son William died 1790, sons Abel, Aasph, and Richard.

He came to Arkansas around 1845 with the Lemley famliy. >From what I understand the Lemleys owned Slaves and Bradely was a hand or something. I know that he went through Alabama on his way here and that more than likely he was from Tennesse. He was 30 in the 1850 census. Story has it that he left his widowed mother and a sister behind in Tennesse. Any help would be appreciated. My library though realy packed full of stuff does not have much from Tennesse. I need all the help I can get. Thanks Tanya
