I am researching the KY Hill family for information on my great grandfather. In the 1880 Lee Co., KY Census, I find that he may be the son of John/Joel H(enry) Hill b 1830 NC m Arrena Moore b1744 NC Children: Rufus b1865 unknown, Mary 1867 NC, Phoebe E 1868 NC, Henry 1870VA, Walter J 1873 Va, John 1878 KY, James 1880 VA, and twins Abba and Pallo Alto b 1878 Lee Co., KY. Rufus marries Francis Elizabeth Congleton abt 1885 in either Lee or Wolfe Co., KY Children: James Russell b 1886 Menifee, Jesse1888 Lee, and my line Lillie Lou b 1892 Lee Co. Lillie married Adrain Benjamin Ratliff 1908 Montgomery Co., KY Rufus and Frances divorced. Then in 1893 he killed a man in Lee Co., KY . I have the court records of the trial and he received 21 years. Family legend says he served one of those years. Legend also says he married again, had another family and they all died in a boating accident on the Cumberland? River aft 1911. In the court records of Lee Co., KY he is called Rufus. Now, I'm seeing where John/Joel H(enry) may indeed be John William Henry both(?) sons of Thomas and Fannie Russell Baptist. I have John William married to Mary Bates with 7 children and John/Joel H married to Arrena Moore with the nine (above mentioned ) children. What is happening here? I have yet to find anything that tells me who the parents of my Rufus James or James Rufus were. I have searched old newspapers for an account of the crime, a boating accident on or about 1911, death records, you name it. I am stuck. Where does this guy fit in the Hill family. Who are his parents? Who did he marry 2nd? Who were the children of the 2nd marriage? When did he die? I will soon be researching in KY and would love to be able to go with something concrete to work with for my Hill connection. Can anyone help. I would welcome any ideas or imput. Most of the people on AOL that I've sent the gedcoms to, have written back saying they couldn't view them because they arrive in mime format. This seems to have something to do with AOL's setting for receiving attachments and I don't know how to change it. So for those of you who already belong to AOL and want to find the Hill gedcoms, here's how: Once you've signed on to AOL, use the 'keyword' button and type in roots . That will take you to "The Genealogy Forum." From there, click on 'Files', and that will take you to the library. You can then check 'New File Uploads' and 'New File Uploads GEDCOM' on the left side. On the upper right side is 'Ancestors Gedcoms, lineages, tafels, pictures'... this is where the older gedcoms, etc. are. From there you can select to print out the description of the file you want and select it for download. From 'download manager' (on the upper bar of your AOL, I think it's under 'My Files' you can select where you want the files downloaded to, if you want them automatically unzipped, etc. If you select to have the files displayed by subject, it will be easier to locate them. Hi, looking for information on James Hill b ? died Dec. 1819 Hill will states that he was of Northhampton County. He had a wife Nancy (maiden name unknown) and 2 children, Mary Ann Hill and James W. Hill b.April 10, 1817. They lived in the area of Murfreesboro, NC which is on the Meherrin River. He was a farmer and also manufactured barrel staves. I am especiall interested in James ancestry. Nancy lived to about 1855. Daughter married Henry White of Northhampton County. Son James married Mary T. Wells (b Apr. 15, 1824) . James died Sept 30, 1888, Mary died May 8, 1877. Looking for a Hill connection from VA or NC to IN I'm looking for the family of Joseph Hill, born in either VA or NC sometime between 1775 to 1800. Believe it is closer to 1792. His family moved to Orange Co., Indiana and settled around the town of Paoli, IN. He had two wives: 1st unknown, 2nd was Nancy Davis. He married Nancy on 30 Jan 1823. He died about 1840. One of his sons by Nancy Davis was my gg-grandfather Franklin D. Hill (1825-1879) who married Sarah Hunt. Their son Thomas Hill (1846-1928) had a daughter Oma Hill (1888-1981) who was my grandmother.
