    1. [HILL-L] HILL - Monroe Co., Mississippi

I am seeking parents and siblings for Mary "Polly" HILL, who married John McCONNELL and had son Sampson McCONNELL in Monroe Co., MS, in 1829. Polly HILL, b. abt. 1808 in South Carolina, may be connected to one or more of these HILL families who were in Monroe Co. in the 1830 census: Augustus HILL, Thomas HILL, John H. HILL, and/or John HILL. Additionally, Sampson McCONNELL married as his third wife Mary Georgia Anna Hill, b. 8 Aug 1852 in Aberdeen, Monroe Co., MS, daughter of John A. HILL and Tellitha ADAMS. Mary (also apparently sometimes known as Georgia) was supposedly his cousin. Mary Georgia had at least a sister Tellitha (m. SHERWIN) and a brother John L. HILL. Susan Molye <molye@erols.com>

    3. All I can say is keep looking. I found my Hills. My gr grandfather, Richard Hall, was "bound out" to Samuel and Margaret (English) Hill in Delaware Co. NY. I am considering them, for now, his step-parents. Samuel was the son of Ferris Hill and he was never listed in the same census twice that I know of. 1850 Delaware Co. Roxbury 1860 Delaware Co. Middletown 1865 Cortland Co. NY Lapeer Haven't tried to find them yet on 1855, but I suspect he might be with his wife's family in Harpersfield, Delaware Co. NY. His father left Delaware Co. after 1860 and removed to Broome Co. NY. My best suggestion is to try every alternate spelling you can think of. Ferris Hill was recorded as Ferris, Fennis, PHeros.... you get the idea. I hope so cause I would hate to think we all can not find parents, siblings, dates of death, and things, other then me..... Lena ______________________________

    3. Joe, I have a Charles HILL b.08APR1912, in Spencer Co., KY, mar. Dorothy WAGNER 13APR1940. Charles was known for most of his life as "Buddy" he d.APR1987 in Paducah, McCraken Co., KY. Not to be rude or snide - it would be much easier to read your requests if you use capital letters for the first word of each sentence and use caps also for the entire surname. It just makes it easier to scan and see if it's pertinent to your family line. Thanks for posting your line. 3. Howdy down yonder, I think my HILL lineage grew from stumps! Never know what they was up to in them thar 'tucky hills. I have a William S. HILL tucked away behind the ones I have found. Took me forever to find my gradfather's parents. It's a labor of love, really finding where you came from. My mom - still living, and spry - always says "Youngin' you might think you've got it rough... look around... there's always someone that's got it harder. As soon as I find my HILL information is confirmed I'll post it. DON'T GIVE UP!!! - and yes I'm yelling! Maybe we're related? 3. Susan they were in Monroe County, Mississippi I think in 1830. I don't have my records out right now. Then they were in Jones County in 1850. My gggggrandfather was Caleb Hill, my ggggrandfather was Thomas Hill married to Joanna Flynt, my ggrandfather was Joseph Quitman Hill married to Missouri Isabelle Wood, and my grandfather was Joseph Elmer Hill married to Edna Woods Thomas. My problem was is I can't find out who my 3x grandfather was. Thomas had six boys and there's no information on three of them. I can't find out which is ours. Isn't that amazing? I have to wait until they get more of the census on line and then I can find out I hope. So I have both ends and can't find one piece in the middle to put the whole puzzel together. I'm laughing because its so funny, and frustrating. Brenda Rdsable@aol.com wrote: > Brenda, > > you said that some of your HILLS were from Mississippi? So are mine. 2. Brenda Lewis
    3. Please don't take this wrong, I don't want to bragg, I'm just thankful. I found my Hills. First went to the Mormon church research center gained some information and then advertised over the internet in the Hill list. It took a year but I found them. I had to do some searching in counties in Mississippi one at a time. I have met one of the most sweetiest watered down cousins you would ever want to meet, internet style. Haven't met her in person, just e-mail. Hope to meet her one day. She is a sweet heart and gave me so much information. Its well worth waiting for. When it hits, its a blessing that has no boundaries. What I'm trying to say is hang in there, because its worth it. Sometimes its almost a let down when you find them. They become such a part of you, and you get addicted to the search. hahahah Please don't give up. You're relativies are wanting to be found. Good luck, and may the blessings find you, Brenda Odom Lewis

    1. [HILL-L] Check surrounding counties for ancestors
    2. Just a note to say to those of you up against that proverbial "brick wall"... try looking in neighboring counties in addition to the known counties of your ancestors. I had a HUGE breakthrough on my maternal side when I accidently misread my Atlas one night and wrote to what I thought was the correct county, but in fact it was an adjacent county. The adjacent county turned out to be a hotbed of MY ancestors. By that one "mistake" I gathered at least four generations I had been seeking for the past twenty years. So...spread your net to all the adjacent counties. Our ancestors were always on the move, never knowing one day we would be trying to corral them. 1. [HILL-L] A. Bruce Hill, Shelby Co., TN
    2. While searching for somebody else in Shelby Co., TN I found this Goodspeed Biography, 1887, History of Shelby Co., TN. Perhaps somebody out there can claim him. "A. Bruce Hill, secretary of the board of education of Memphis, is a son of John S. Rod Henrietta (Dewese) Hill, natives of North Carolina, born in 1808 and 1813 respectively. They were married in 1835, and the same year came to Tipton County, where they engaged in agricultural pursuits. For about eighteen years he was a magistrate, and in politics a Whig till 1836, being from that time up to the time of his death a Democrat. Their family consisted of nine children--seven sons and two daughters. Four of the boys, A. Bruce, James M., J. Sloan, and E, W. Thomas fought nobly for the Southern cause during the late war. The last named died in service. In 1863 while waiting on the sick and the wounded of the battle of Chickamauga the father contracted a fever of which he died ere reaching home. The mother still lives. Our subject was born December 12, 1837, in Tipton County, was reared on a farm and received a thorough academic education. At the age of eighteen he began teaching but soon after engaged in the mercantile business. In 1861 he volunteered in Company G, of the Fifty-first Tennessee Infantry, Confederate Army. He was successively promoted to first lieutenant and captain of his company, holding the latter till the close of the war. During nearly four years of service he was neither wounded nor captured, and at the close of the war returned to Tipton County, where he engaged in merchandising. In 1865 he married Hattie E. Thompson who was born in 1843. The fruits of this union are three children, two sons and one daughter, the eldest son being dead. In 1868 Mr. Hill moved to Memphis and the following year his wife died. In 1872 he married Isabelle R. Vanse, born in 1848, and to this union were born seven chidren--three sons and four daughters. He and both wives are Presbyterians. Having been engaged in the mercantile business till 1881, he was elected secretary of the board of education. He is a Mason, an Odd Fellow; a member of the A. O. U. W., being recorder; a member of the Order of K. of H., being financial reporter, and a member of the K. & L. of H., being treasurer. He is a Democrat in politics." ________________________________________________________________ Get FREE voicemail, fax and email at http://voicemail.excite.com Talk online at http://voicechat.excite.com
