I am trying to decide which Hills might lead to my Arkansas Hills. Did the Hills from VA venture there? How about the Georgia Hills? All I know is Hills is Ark. abt.. 1850, and I know they had to come from somewhere..... Rhonda
Hello fellow Hill Researchers, I am still looking for information on my HILL family, and hoping to connect with some descendants of the following family. My grandfather was Alfred Hill b. 23 July 1905, in England, his siblings names were: Isaac - who was in the navy in WWII Ida - married a BEDDOWS and lived in Beswick, Manchester in the 1940's. Frances - who married a PARKIN and had children named Frances and Jimmy and a few more boys. Tilly - no info yet. There were other children in this family, the mother of the family was living in Shakespeare Street, Bradford, Manchester in the 1940's, she died around 1954. My grandfather Alfred, worked at Clayton Aniline and was a champion bowler at nearby Openshaw club. He was living in Droylsden, Manchester, at the time of his death in 1959 aged 54. Hoping to hear from anyone with info on this family. Diane Sanders (nee HILL) Australia daks@tsn.cc
Rhonda, I know it to be true, that my Great Grandfather William Edward Hill was born in Kansas. He traveled to Van Buren, Arkansas where he married and they had my Grandfather. This was 1881 when my GGrandfather was born. I am pretty sure my GGGrandfather was in Kansas before this but have not yet verified this. I hope this is what you are asking for. Unfortunately it is from me. I have not got further than a possibility for my GGGGrandfather. I am waiting on some info from my Aunt that will help a great deal. Good Luck, Amy
Idalu; Can not help on David Clopton Hill but interested in the middle name of Clopton. Am working on the Cloptons of Va. Could his mother have been a Clopton? Add me to your list if you find out anything on Cloptons? Thanks BUCK Idalu Bishop wrote: > > At last... the name "David Hill" comes up on the list!! Sandy, I am the 5-gr-grandson of John HILL, father of Ezekiel HILL. I have info on Ezekiel and his wife, Mary (WILLS) HILL (m. 18 Jan. 1790, Amherst Co.) and their six children. My info on Ezekiel (b.?, d.about 1816-18) is a bit limited and all I know of his father comes from a brief quote in a book that mentions Ezekiel HILL as being "the son of John Hill of Amherst Co., [VA]". I have just moved and many of my notes are still being unpacked, I hope to get back into things this coming holiday weekend. Hello All, The subject of the 1918 flu epidemic was thoroughly discussed on another list, probably in 1998. All you want to know is in the Rootsweb archives. Richard Hayes richardhayes@earthlink.net

A Peter HUDSON was also mentioned in the will. I have wondered if anyone knows of another daughter of William HILL who married a HUDSON and had children? Hello D.A. and Other Hill Researchers: I am not a descendant of the Hill Family, but my beloved wife, now deceased was the grand daughter of Mary Belle Hill. We did some extensive research on the Hill Family of Virginia. About 20 years after the founding of Jamestown, VA, Henry Hill and his brother William of Shropshire County England came to Virginia. They settled on the Eastern Shores of Early Virginia in what is now Middlesex Co., VA. It was in 1740 that Russell Hill the great grandson of William along with his brother Needles moved inland and became one of the original settlers of Culpeper Co., VA. This is the ancestry of the famous Civil War General Ambrose Powell Hill. There are a number of Johns in this family, but I could not identify any one of them as a John Fleming Hill. There is a Hill Family Website which has considerable information on this family. The URL is: < http://edge.edge.net/~gbhilll > Regards, Bernie in Northern Virginia
At last... the name "David Hill" comes up on the list!! If you can tie into a DAVID CLOPTON HILL, b. 2-4-1809; d.6-27-1887, from Amelia Co. VA; married REBECCA BUYSE, b.12-8-1811, d.11-15-1898, from Lincoln Co. GA; settled in Limestone Co. AL; buried at Pettusville, AL, I have some additional information, and would love to hear from you. DAVID and REBECCA's children were named: LEVI SOCRATES, EMMA (LOUSIANA), FOUNTAIN P., JOHN W., LUCY, MARY, REBECCA, SALLY, LOUISA DICEY, and DOLLY. I have searched for David's father for years. Sure hope someone can help me find him. Idalu Bishop
The Hills in VA that I am looking for are ancestors of John Fleming Hill. I do not know where in VA he was born, but his death certificate says that he was born in VA, so I can only assume that he had family there. D. A. Blakemore
Sorry, NJ was the state. I mentioned it in the first post and neglected it in the expanded version. Sussex/Warren Co., NJ. Charles Hill
I am looking for the ancestors of Laura Hill and her father Moses Hill. Laura was born in 1815 in NY State. In 1830s Dr. Moses Hill and his family lived in LaGrange, IN. In 1832 a son Moses Hill married Nancy Martin and in the same year Laura Hill married Washington Adams in LaGrange. In 1850 Washington and Laura Hill lived in Ligonier, IN and had three children. Martha J Adams born in 1840, Moses born in 1842 and Martha born in 1846. In 1853 the family moved to Mt. Carroll, IL. In 1861 Mary J. Adams married Andrew J. Christian in Mt Carroll. I do not know what happened to the two other children, Moses or Martha. Does anyone out there have any information on these families. Thanks for help. Perry Adams
Hey listers, I ran across this article in the November issue of Reader's Digest and thought it to be informative to people searching this time period. It might answer questions as to why some people seemed to 'drop off the face of the earth' in the Philadelphia area. "1918 was the peak year of the greatest pandemic in recorded history, which in less than two years took at least 21 million lives." It goes on to say- "The toll was frightful. In Philadelphia, for example, some 2600 perished in the second week of October and 4500 in the third week." "Geographic isolation was no protection. In the Alaska Territory, the mortality in some villages was as high as 90 percent. All told, at least 500,000 Americans perished." Just though I would pass it along. Susan Hill
I am ultimately searching for the family of Jane Hill (b. abt 1811) who married Thomas Cox in Amherst County, Va. in 1831 and lived in Nelson County by the 1850 census. She may have been the daughter of Samuel Hill, son or grandson of James Hill (1758-1831). The estate records of John Hill (d. Amherst 1801) show a judgment in favor of Samuel Hill and Samuel Hill, Jr. Can anyone help with (i) families of any Samuel Hill in Amherst or Nelson Counties, Va roughly 1775-1825 or (ii) the family groups of any of the Amherst Hill families in that period other than John and James mentioned above, whose children I have? E.g., Ezekial Hill and Dabney Hill. Many thanks. Sandy Rowe WLSRowe@AOL.com
Sorry listers but I posted yesterday as I was breezing through my office. Adam and David were in Sussex and Warren Co. in the Walpack area. Adam was born about 1825 and died in 1863. He is buried in the Newton Cemetery. I do not know much more about David than his name. I found the marriage record of Adam and it gave me David as his father. Before I had thought it to be Uriah Hill. There is a David Hill in the 1860 census who was 61. He is the right age but I do not have any connection at this time other than one of the children listed with him may be Adam's. Adam was a blacksmith as was his son, Jacob. David appears to have been a farmer. Adam was living in Pahquarry Twp in Warren Co. in 1860. Hope someone can make a connection. Charles Hill
Thanks for the correction everyone - Robert B Hill was born 12/10/1828 and died 9/15/1880. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
