Has anyone ever heard of or know where I can get a copy of the book "Letters of Dr. Richard Hill and his Children..." arranged by John Jay Smith? It was published in Philadelphia by a private printer for the descendants in 1854. This is the Richard Hill who married Deborah Moore in Maryland in 1720 of which some Georgia Hills descended from. I found this book in the National Genealogy Society library but it's marked "non-circulating" as it is so rare and I'm a long way from Virginia. Any ideas? Thanks. Kathy Vaught

Hi Shelley, If you think it's odd that 2 Stacy girls married 2 Holmes boys, how about 3 Hill boys marrying 3 Adams girls? People married the people they knew, often the "girl next door". It could be a long walk to someone elses house! In Goliad Co., TX, 1870s time period, 3 daughters of the late Robert Henry Hill (often called Robert C. Hill) and Agnes Shelton Menefee married 3 daughters of William Alexander Adams and Janette Kuykendall. Well, folks, I'm still looking for info on Samuel M. Hill that married Mary Elizabeth Hambrick. We first thought Samuel was born about 1840--don't know where--but we have now decided it must have been about 1838. He may have been a brother to Hinton Hill who's 3rd wife was Mary Elizabeth's sister, Virginia. Samuel was the Chief of Police in Fayetteville, Lincoln Co., TN but we don't know the exact years. Mary Elizabeth died before Nov. 1890 when he married Mollie Walker. Samuel M. died in 1897 in Fayetteville. His obit stated that burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery but we haven't been able to find the grave. Samuel M. and Mary Elizabeth had children: Cynthia L. (Ella), Drew Isaac (listed as Drury I. on the census) Andy Forest, Samuel R., Fannie V., Nancy Elizabeth ( Lizzie), and Minnie who died about age 2. There were no children from the marriage to Mollie Walker that we know of. We haven't been able to locate the parents of Samuel M. or Hinton and are not sure where either was born. Does anybody have even a shread of info that might help us? Anything would be greatly appreciated! Suzanne

Would like to contact anyone who might have any info on Japhet Hill and Hannah Knight. They were marr. in Scarboro, ME, 9 Oct 1760. In several publications, Japhet is also referred to as a brother of Daniel Hill who marr. Elizabeth Holmes. Japhet and Daniel were with the "Original 16 Settler's" who settled Machias, ME in May 1763, coming from Scarboro, ME. Several "Hill" researchers have Daniel as the son of Joseph Hill and Abigail Libby of Scarboro and Kittery, ME. Would love to see some documentation that Japhet was also a member of this family. Looking for info on my mother's family ( Margaret Frances Elizabeth Hill, born July 5, 1911, Lexington Ky.) . Her father was Squire Hill, her mother was Martha Asbury. She married a Kenneth Hoffman who was associated with horse racing. She had a daughter Janet, who was raised by an Aunt who was a Toadvine. Then she had a Nancy and a Kenneth Hoffman. Hello Valerie, I wonder if Catherine STACY is a connection to Nancy STACEY who married Thomas DOWDEN and Robert HOLMES? Robert Holmes married Nancy Stacey 29 Nov 1813 in Clark Co., Indiana. Robert was born in North Carolina in 1782, in 1808 he and his mother moved to Jefferson Co., KY. In 1809 he moved again and ended up in Jackson Co., IN. I had not heard of a large migration of Hills to FL, but do have Dr. John Ward Hill, son of Stephen Hill, who died in St. Petersburg, FL in 1916. I am descended from Hills who came from MD to Newberry Co. SC and then to Warren County KY and on to IL. What do you have on your Thomas Hill?
