I subscribed to this mail list several years ago but have been off the mailing list for sometime. Thought I'd try again, hoping maybe someone out there might know the where about of Albert Milton HILL b. 1864 as to where your guess is as good as mine. His father may have been John Wesley not sure if this is correct. Don't know mothers name. He married Alice Lee or Jeanette JORDAN. They lived in TX for a while because their 7 children were born there. Pretty sure that he and Alice split company and he went back to TX or at least that's the way the story goes. If anyone knows of any information please let me know. Thanks, Sbright815@aol.com
Hi List, I got the following from another list. Hope this info. clears up some graveyard mysteries for some of you. Dating Tombstones One way to help find the era your ancestor was buried is to examine the material from which the tombstone is made. If your ancestor has a stone made of slate or common fieldstone (except wood used by pioneers), chances are the stone dates from 1796-1830. * If the stone is flat-topped hard marble, dates are about 1830-1849. * If the "mystery" stone is round or pointed soft marble with cursive inscriptions, look for a date of 1845-1868. * Masonic four-sided stones began in 1850 and are still in use today. * Pylons, columns and all exotic-style monuments are usually dated 1860-1900. * Zinc monuments date from 1870-1900. * Granite, now common, came into use about 1900. If the writing is too faded to read, use a 75 watt black light bulb in any lamp that casts light directly on the written message. The writing will miraculously appear.

Hi: I am tracing Hills from OH>IL>IA, but don't recognize any of these names, at least at first glance. My Ancestor is Francis Hill and his wife Elizabeth Truss who were born in NJ according to the Census. They were born in 1786 and 1799. They lived in IA and were buried at the Oakland/Carpenter Cem. in Louisa Co, IA. I haven't any information on their parents so far. Good Luck, Bj

Hi Eddie, Before you (or any HILL researchers) commit any of my info to your database, you need to read Carl Hill, Jr.'s scathing email to me about it's incorrectness. I just wrote him and asked him who HIS sources were and could we get together and correct my stuff. I don't want to put mis-information out as people do take it for gospel. Just a heads up for you. Better wait till I get this all straightened out. Thanks and sorry HILL researchers. Wanda Hill Hamblen
Hello, I just joined this list, although I also belong to several others. I'm just starting to sort my Hill family out and I am seeking the family of Rosanna HILL, born about 1820 in Ohio. Her family moved to Pike County, Illinois. Rosanna HILL married first Jesse SHIPTON January 3, 1838 in Pike County, IL. One known daughter, Isabella SHIPTON, born about 1840 in Missouri who married Philo BISSELL in Grant County, Wisconsin, and later settling in Clayton County, Iowa. Rosanna HILL married second, John GIBSON September 19, 1848, in Pike County, Illinois. They settled in Edgewood, Clayton County, Iowa. John and Rosanna HILL SHIPTON GIBSON had six children, all born in Edgewood, Clayton County, Iowa: Henry B. Gibson, b.1849 Wallace Samuel Gibson, b.1851, married Minnie May PATTERSON 1885 Emily "Emma" Gibson, b.1853, married Edward HILL 1875 (child Verda HILL) Florence Gibson, b.1855 Jennie Gibson, b.1859, married 1st SHIPTON & 2nd Sears T. RICHARDS Edwin Gibson, b. 1861, married Mary Catherine PECK 1890 The marriage records for Pike County, Illinois, also show an Isabella HILL marriage to Harrison MITCHELL on January 24, 1853, and since Rosanna HILL named her first daughter Isabella, there might be a relationship. Hopefully, someone might recognize these Hills. This database is a listing of persons allotted land in 1838 from what was considered "Cherokee Land." Located in the northeastern part of the state, over 18,500 parcels were distributed by lottery in that year. Each record of this collection contains the individual's name, residence, and county. Additionally, it provides the district and section number of the parcel of land. For researchers of early Georgian ancestors, this can be an enlightening database. Bibliography: Smith, James F.
