I have previously posted but this time I will give more detailed information and hope that someone out there in Hill Land can help me. I would like to confirm the information that I have. My father left family tree information but no documentation or sources. I also would like to meet new cousins!!! Our ancestor tree starts with CHARLES HILL who married Margaret McGregor (she supposedly was related to a famous outlaw Rob Roy) They left Kent, England and settled in Dublin, Ireland between 1700 and 1725. They are said to be the first Hill's to settle in Ireland. They had three sons. Two sons (we do not know their names) went to the USA and settled in Pennsylvania as blacksmith and latter went into the lumber business. The third son is our ancestor Thomas who stayed in Dublin, Ireland. THOMAS HILL married Margaret Daly (we have no dates for these folks) They had children Margaret, Godfrey, Thomas, Humphrey and our ancestor Charles who was born Nov 1, 1785 CHARLES HILL b Nov 1, 1785 married Sarah Murphy b May 23, 1807 they remained in Dublin, Ireland and had 12 children Margaretb 1826, Charles jr b 1828,William Godfrey b 1830, Emily b 1832, Joseph b1834, Sarah b 1836, John b 1838, George b 1840, Fred b1842 ( he went ot Australia) Elizabeth b May 30, 1849,Frank b 1847 (he went to India) and our ancestor James Andrew Hill b July 24, 1850 JAMES ANDREW HILL b July 24, 1850 in Dublin, Ireland came to the USA and became a citizen in Belfast, Maine in 1876. He married a Bridgit O'Rourke in Boston, Mass and she went with him to Hurricane Island off of Rockland, Maine where James worked in a Granite Quarry. From 1884 to 1900 they remained on Hurricane Island and had 9 children. They then moved to Boston and had two more children. Two of James Andrew's brothers also worked in the Granite Quarry and latter settled in Main. (1) John Hill married Jane Cody and became a tailor with a store on Main Street in Rockland, maine. They had children circa 1860 - 1900 Sadi, Charles, John Jr, George and Jane. (2)William Godfrey moved to Winterport and had children William Andrew who married Caddi Pierce and Charles Redmond who married Ann Crocker. Their children were William, Juanita and Catherine all lived in Winterport, Maine Thank you for any information you can share with me Sally Hill ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

When I finally found my great grandfather C.R.Hill on the only census I could find him on, the 1880 Census of Boone County, Rocky Fork Missouri, he was with his wife David Ann (Dunbar) Hill their only son at the time, Charles H. and also there was a Mary E. Hill (N.R.) 9/12. I do not know for sure what the N.R. stands for. But I sure would like to know where she came from, where she went. She was born in Missouri it says. Lena

WJHAWKINS The possibility that I listed before is the correct family group. Glad that they were in one of the first counties in Kansas (Alpha listed) there are 100+ counties to look at. It feels good to know that I haven't lost my touch and can still do research. The family was not listed in the 1865 Index for the State Census so they mst have come after that date. Below are some head of households for (Jessee Hill) Missouri in 1860 Carroll Couty page 693 Gentry county page 839/838 Dade County 160 Miller County 503 Lawrence County 893 BOURBON COUNTY KANSAS 1870 Federal page 539 Scott Twp Hill Jessie F (or J) 34 M farmer NC Elizabeth J 34 F Ohio Mary J. 17 F Mo Louvina (?) 13 F Mo Anna B 5 F Ks Liza 3 F Ks Elizabeth 2/12 F Ks Graham, William 21 M hand Va 1875 State Scott Twp Jessie J Hill 39 MW farmer 4000/400 NC Elzabeth H 39FW ohio Disey Hill 18FW Mo Anabel 10 FW Ks Eliza 7 FW Ks Elizabeth 5 FW Ks Essie/Efa 5/12 FW ks (Family listed that they came to Kansas from the state of Missouri) 1880 Federal (Soundex) Scott Twp Jessie Hill 44 WM Ky Elizabeth 43 Ohio wife Anabelle 14 Kansas Daughter LIDA M 11 Kansas Daughter Sarah E. 10 Kansas Daughter Effie E 5 Kansas Daughter & 1 servant 1880 information is from the soundex, will look at the original if you want the name of the servant. Also the 1875 State census has information about the farm, and will give a lot of detail about fences and live stock and crops. Did not have time today to really look at the Scott Township in the 1885 State Census have a feeling that I over looked what I wanted. The 1885 census will list even greater detail and will also list if a person has served in the military and will give detail information about the unit. There is also the possibility of the 1895 State census if they had not sold the farm by that time. There is very limited information in the Library about Bourbon County, so will not be able to help with marriages of the siblings for Lida Mae. PleaseE-Mail me direct and we can talk if you wish for me to do anything more. Kayleene Lowe Wichita Kansas
I've noted the recent posts re: HILLs in Kansas. I have pictures of a Hill family in Wellington, KS, prior to 1900. I believe them to connect back to my Kentucky HILLs (family of William Wright HILL, possibly a nephew, possibly connected to a Franklin HILL) and to my great-grandmother Ann Rebecca HILL, who moved to Texas in 1879. If anyone knows of a HILL family in Wellington, Kansas, about this time, please contact me. Kit
This is a re-post to the list: I am looking for a Nancy Hill born 4/1851 in Arkansas. I have no idea where. Her middle name may have been Emmett. She married a Samuel M. Kelley and they moved to MS. I know she died 3/21/1930. I'm really sorry to be so vague, but this is all I have. Rhonda

Hi I cannot recall if I have contacted you before, but I am African-American and have Hills in my family. My grandfather was James Hill - died in Patchogue, L.I., New York on 11/6/47. He was born somewhere in Virginia possibly in 1875, 76 or 77. He was married to Sarah Webster of Farmville, Cumberland County, Virginia. I have been unable to determine where he was born in Virginia, or come up with anyone who has information about him. Blanche
I've been searching for the family of Ebenezer B. Hill for a long time, as those of you on this list can attest. My uncle recently forwarded some information to me indicating the possible names of more of his children. Here's what I know. Ebenezer appeared on the 1840 Erie County, OH census in Groton Township. One known child was James Melvin Hill, b. 1819 Lewis County, NY. James was my g-g-grandfather. James married in 1844 in Erie County, OH, Groton Twp. These names are possibly additional children of Ebenezer: Jenette - b. c.1810 - NY Eliza - b. c.1838 - OH Chester - b. c.1843 - OH If you have information on any of the above or if you are a descendant, I would love hearing from you. Thanks. Carol Kilgore osogreat@zianet.com
Would the person who inquired about African-American Hills please contact me? Thanks. Kathy Vaught
