    3. Jay does make a valid point here. I know that myself, I've wasted time that way running down the wrong ethnicity. There's actually only one race (human). However, hardly any postings ever mention that detail. I'm guilty myself, I've just overlooked it. I also believe the reason many of us don't link is because we push our direct lines. I've tried to break that habit too. I found two cousins in the past six months because of it. (other Line) These are very good suggestions Thanks Jay beau@jump.net ----- Original Message ----- From: Jay <jthill@inreach.com> To: <HILL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 25, 2000 6:27 PM Subject: [HILL-L] Another Suggestion > I have been on this family list for awhile now and I have seen suggestions > come and go but, one I haven't seen yet is about race or nationality. 3. I have been on this family list for awhile now and I have seen suggestions come and go but, one I haven't seen yet is about race or nationality. While it is great that we help one another like this I think it would also benefit to put the race in your requests. I know I'm not saying this right. But if I'm tracing a John Doe and see another one show up with some of the same names I think great. Then I start running the names down and find out its for a black John Doe. Also I know that most of you like myself is running a direct line with not too much time spent on Aunts, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters....ETC. So I am sure that some of the requests for info could be for the Aunts, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters.....ETC. that we pass by. Jay

    1. Re: [HILL-L] Ebenezer B. HILL
    2. Hello All, This might prove to be a great idea, so I will try one more time. My Jonathan Hills was b 1792 in Rutherford, NC. He married Lucy Lincoln (daughter of Hannaniah Lincoln) in Hardin Co., KY. They were Caucasian with dark hair. Lucy's two brothers, Austin and Thomas? were mentioned by President Lincoln as cousins. Their children are: William Jeffreys, Sarah m Buford McIntire, John Alexander m Maria Shipman (daughter of John Shipman), Margaret m. James McGill, Sena Catherine m David Ambrose, James m Julia Stiff, Charles, Elizabeth, Mary Priscilla m Richard Morman, Malvina, Eliza Rebecca, Lucy Jane m Manoah-Smith Lasley, and Martha. All born Elizabethtown, Ky. A Picture of their home and family history is in "History of Elizabethtown". Waldo Lincoln's book "Descendants of Samuel Lincoln" lists this family down to John Alexander and Maria (Shipman) Hills. He also said that Mordecai Lincoln m Sarah Jones, the widow of John Shipman. Mordecai is ancestor of Lucy. Children of John Alexander Hills b 1822 above and Maria Shipman are: Mary E. b 22 Apr 1854, James H. m Nannie M Campbell, Lucy Lone (birth card in KY gives middle name as Love), Nannie, and Mary B. All born Garrard County, KY. Per family lore Lucy was named "Lone" by Mr. Pope's wife. I have no idea who Mrs. Pope is. Lucy Lone Hills married in KY, Rufus C. Hardy, a resident of Indiana. They went back to Indiana, had a family and both died there. Family names mentioned are Hall, Woods, Web and Webster. There is a connection to the Lee family, but I have been unable to find it. Two Hills sisters married Carters in Hardin Co. about the same time Jonathan married in 1815. Other family names are Dunn and Hogan. Sorry to write a book, but there must be someone out there who connects with this family and may know who Jonathan's parents are!!!!!!!! Desperate in Texas, Barbara

    3. Ben, Hit the nail on the head - (lets hope) I've a James William HILL b.1823 in KY. This information is from LDS FHC files. There are bits and pieces of other information: James father is Spencer HILL. Looks to me, as shows in LDS, There was a Harriet Eliza HILL, b.28DEC1858 mar. David Blackburn Creekmore, Harriet d.14MAR1922. buried at Rock Holds, Whitley, KY. Much of this is pure scramble to me. I have 21 aunts and uncles, Mom's and Dad's and only one retains their spark. This is my mom, still living. Sure would like to make sense of some of this before I croak. It's hard to believe that no one has bothered to put this all together Let me know if any of this garble makes any sense to you.
