    3. Melinda, Finally, some northern Hills. I am descended from Abraham Hill b ca 1747, lived in or around Greenwich CT. 1. [HILL-L] HILL-SMITHER (Surry Co. NC)
    2. Many people have tried to prove their connection to the HILL-SMITHER (William Hill Sr.) line. Now more than ever, proof may be available for you to connect to. Two HILL-SMITHER researchers from independent branches of the tree have received perfectly matched DNA results at the HILL DNA PROJECT (http://www.livingston.net/hilldna/) DNA participant #4005 descended through Daniel HILL, and participant #4025 descended through Captain Robert HILL, have confirmed their researched connection to William HILL and Susannah SMITHERS through DNA testing. The beauty of this connection via DNA is that others can now confirm their connection to the line as well, by comparing their DNA results with the two above mentioned researchers. On the other hand, researchers may find that their results match one of the other lines posted at the HILL DNA PROJECT. The results of DNA testing can eliminate years of researching wrong lineages. Please join in on this project. Participants must be living MALEs with the surname HILL. For more information, go to the HILL DNA PROJECT website at: http://www.livingston.net/hilldna/ Ray HILL is the HILL DNA PROJECT coordinator. Byron Hill HILL-L Administrator

    1. Re: [HILL-L] Hill in NY, CT & other parts
    2. Hi Melinda..... I am also researching this line of Hills. The line I am particularly interested is John HILL(b.1615), James HILL(b.1646 - m.Sarah GRISWOLD), John HILL(b.1694 m.Ruth RICHARDSON), Nathan HILL(b.1731 - m.Esther), Lyman HILL(b.1769 - m.Hannah HULL). My gggrandfather Andrew HILL was born in Livonia, NY in 1810. I know his mothers name was Hannah and because the name Lyman is found several times in his children and children's children, I did a search for a Lyman HILL and Hannah in CT (both of Andrew's parents were born in CT)on the LDS site. This is how I ended up researching this line of HILLs. In the 1810 census for NY I found a Lyman HILL with the right amount of children and adults to fit in with the Lyman and Hannah HILL family I found on the LDS site. I am still looking for another form of verification and am interested in anything that might help me get there. Would love to hear about your line out of John HILL and how you found your info. Thanks, Sandy (Hill) Bolton Round Rock, Tx.

    1. [HILL-L] Hill in NY, CT & other parts
    2. Melinda Weaver
    3. Hi! I'm a Hill descendant from the New England Hills. My line starts with John Hill who was born in England in 1615 and married to Catherine Chalker. They settled in CT around 1646. John became freeman at Guilford before 1657, having been in Branford in 1646 During the troubles between Connecticut and New Haven, he was of the Rossiter faction. Suits against him for slander are discussed in 'Steiner's History of Guilford' page 95. He was one of the lesser planters, being known as Goodman Hill. His home lot was on the south side of the Green, and contained about an acre and three-fourths. In addition to this, he had other lands. They had 6 children. I have all the info to my current generation. My grandmother was a Hill. Her grandmother was a Goodyear that married a Hill. Melinda

    3. Hello Westley and all of you other Hills, I have been just watching this list for a long time. My grandmother was a Hill and from what I can gather, most of the Hills in my line lived rather non-discript lives. I was ready to give up because the name is so common and beyond the 1855 census on Saratoga County in NYS, I have found nothing. Most of you are researching Hills in the southern US and my Hills emigrated to this area from Massachusetts. Westley's letter encouraged me because his line is at least a little closer to home. I should have written instead of just watching the list for so long. If we don't let ourselves be known, the list is only a portion of what it should be. My Hill family came to Saratoga County in NYS circa. 1837. Truman and Hiram were basketmakers. I think Eunice Hill was the mother and there was a sister Terzah. Truman married Mary Ramsey and they had a son named Samuel who married Eva Corp. He was also a basketmaker and was murdered on the road to his home in about 1902. My grandmother Lelah Hill was one of four of his daughters. There really isn't much connection to your family, Westley, except for proximity. But thank you for writing to the list. I have Elsie Hill 1804 married to John Jividen / but then I also have this couple's daughter Josephine Jividen married to Jacob Homer Searles---whose mother is shown as Sarah HILL. I'd be much obliged if someone could clarify this for me and maybe also give me Sarah HILLS parents names. (A separate record states Sarah's maiden name is Lyons so I'm wondering if Sarah HILLS is not her name at all.) Thanks, Sarah
