    3. Terry, I really do like your idea. May I make this suggestion; Have everyone post their first ancestor, in my case William Hill, Sr., where they lived, where their son migerated to, dates, when they left and on down the line. This would give a migeratory trail. I keep finding tidbits on the web, such as my John Hill, grs/o William, Sr. being in eastern TN. with another officer doing survey work and not wanting to go further west because of Indians. So I didn't know that he was there at that time. Another time I found 2 brothers, a sister, and brother in law going to the fort to deliver some books and Indians started chasing them. They killed the brother in law and scalped him. This was my Casey line, but I did find out the name of the sister. We wouldn't have to go into great detail, Just where did they go and when? Thanks....Wanda > ==== HILL Mailing List ==== > Questions about this list? Feel free to contact the listowner for > help at: [email protected] > > >

    3. Great ideas, Terry. I will join in your efforts. Jack Willoughby Roseville, CA -----Original Message----- From: Terry Hill [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, November 05, 2002 9:37 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [HILL-L] Hill Surname Research - Important! Hello one and all! I have been reading and participating in the HILL Digest for several years and have seen the boon to the Hill surname research. And it has done my heart good, especially when one compares it to the relatively unorganized attempt of other surname research groups. With the advent of the HILL DNA effort that is being spear-headed by Ray Hill, the HILL Digest under the loving care of Byron Hill, and one or two other major web-based discussion groups, I think that we have all of the right (and necessary) tools to take HILL research to the next important level. What I am proposing is this: * A serious, highly organized attempt by all of us, using all the tools listed above, to systematically lay down the origins of our for fathers and their path across the US. I am not in anyway implying that we are not all serious about our research. I am simply saying that after years of researching dead-ends, we some times settle for loose connections at best or do not flush out all the facts with sufficient documentation or detail - can you tell I'm an engineer?! :-) * I propose one site, which links together all of the above tools, where Hill researchers can congregate to collect, add to and help chart out the Hill's history in the US. * In addition to what the existing tools listed, I propose the next tool which will let us take the paradigm shift needed to make this a truly remarkable research effort: Establish on-line family lines research pages where a common family line can selflessly document their research (from many different researchers) so that it can be offered up for peer review, discussion and/or correction. This last item will take considerable work, but I believe that if we can get it set up (exact format & implementation to be determined) it would be an invaluable tool to help ferret-out any mistakes, erroneous data & help tie together family lines. I offer up my services in what ever form they are needed and I'm sure if people are interested we can have continuing discussions on the scope and implementation of it all. To try and wrap-up my note for today, let me say that I see such great potential of such an undertaking that would have nothing but tremendous benefits for the HILL genealogy cause. After all, we are not doing this for our own personal gain or glory, so lets see what we can accomplish. Thank you, Terry Hill ==== HILL Mailing List ==== Questions about this list? 3. A friend of mine who went to Vermont to see the fall colors, stumbled across a cemetery in Manchester, VT where the family of some of Abraham Lincoln's family is buried ... and some Hills. Knowing my interest in genealogy, he stopped and video taped the following Hill headstones. While it doesn't look like these Hills are mine, I hope they belong to someone. Julius Hill (son of Jerome J. Hill) & Laura A. Luthrop 1859-1904 Mettie Fisk Hill 1861-1931 Jerome F. Hill 1891-1963 & wife Elsie M. Harrington 1892-1973 Donald B. Hill Benjamin Fisk 1831-190 & wife Mary J. Green 1808-1906 Alice Fisk McNaught 1870-1940 Charles R. Fisk Other original families in the cemetery were: Orvis, Lincoln & Isham. Hope this helps, Terry Hill

    3. I recently received some information about the following family which is not my line. But, I would very much like to get in touch with anyone who's line it belongs to as my line and this one was in the same county and state at the same time. John Hill, Dalton, Whitfield Co., Georgia Age 42 in 1872 Came to the U.S. in 1849 from Edinburg, Scotland Moved to Dalton, Whitfield Co., GA in 1853 Mrs. Fannie Hyer, widow of John Hill (she was 62 in 1906). She married John Hill about 1854 or 1855 in Chattanooga, TN Information mentions brother Robert Hill Mrs. W.R. Johnson appointed Administratrix of John Hill's estate, March 1906 Also mentions Robert Batey and William D. Bard Robert Batey was Mrs. Fannie Hyer's stepfather. He married her mother about 1846 in Europe. Nancie

My interest in the family is my ancestor John Hill who was in Carter Co TN with Absolem and William who age wise was the father. These three went to TN from Burke Co NC. Is the William from Burke NC and Carter TN the William who sold land in Pittsylvania VA about 1771/72? Irene Fulton
