Mel, thank you so much for answering my e-mail. We have very little info on my Hill line. We know that my ggrandfather was James H. Hill, b. ca 1826 in Ky. We don't know where in Ky. We THINK his father was Joseph b. ca 1804 possibly in Pa. We have a family tradition that there is some Cherokee blood. Our grandfather claimed to be a "little" Indian. It sounds like there may be some connection to your line but we are really having a hard time finding our forebears. Have you done the DNA? We haven't as yet as I am having a hard time convincing my family to do it. Please keep in touch. Esther Hill Mills

To any U.K. HILL listers, Kathy HILL from Auckland New Zealand. I have just managed to find my possible GG Grandparents in the 1901 census Richard HILL aged 36 Born Worcester, Worcestershire. Administrative county is Birmingham. Civil Parish Ashton His Occupation is listed as: Shop Keeper Outdoor Beer House. Louie HILL (Wife) aged 34 Born Malvern, Worcestershire. Administrative County is Birmingham. Civil Parish Aston. Her maiden name is Louisa Jane HILLARY (Hillory in 1881 cencus) I have visited the Free BDM site but can not find their marriage. Their supposed first known son William Richard HILL was not home when the cencus was taken. William said his age was 22 in 1904 at the time of his marriage to a Sarah Anne Emily POPE. Bertram HILL (Son) aged 10 Born Western S Mare Somerset. Administrative County Birmingham. Civil Parish Ashton. Florence (Daughter) Aged 7 Born Birmingham. Administrative County Birmingham. Civil Parish Aston. We are not sure if Louisa HILLARY was Richard's first and or only wife. This is due to the big age gap between the birth of William? and his brother Bertrum in 1890. I did think about trying to do a DNA on my HILL line but there are so few Males. How many generations do you need to prove a family link? Why is it that only males are tested? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. My thanks to all of you have submitted the names of your early ancestors for posting on our DNA website. Sorry that I can't post those born after 1800 (due to space limitations). The list is growing. If you find a name that ties in with your family research, just click on the name shown as the contact for that family lineage. Check it out: http://www.livingston.net/hilldna/early.html. We still need more names of ancestors born prior to 1700. You do not have to be a participant in the DNA project to submit a name. This posting is for everyone with documented ancestors born prior to 1800. E. Ray Hill [email protected] www.livingston.net/hilldna

Hi, I have added a new page to our Hill DNA Project website where you can list your early HILL ancestors, with an email link to you for exchanging information with others on your family history. If you have a website displaying your Hill family history, you can also list your web address. If your Hill ancestor was born between 1600-1800 and you would like to list him on our website, please let me know. If you will use the format show on the web page, it will be most helpful. We especially need listings for those born between 1600 and 1700, or earlier. You do not have to be a participant in our DNA project to post your early ancestor. I would, however, ask that you (1) not post the names of any Hill ancestors that you can not document with primary sources of data, such as wills, deeds, census, family bible, DNA, marriage and military records, and (2) be willing to provide that information to others researching that ancestor for a possible connection. Ron, My ASAPH HILL was b. c1767, prob.SC, but I don't see a connection---unless he may have been a cousin with the same name... I see George W. Hill married a Waggoner---there was a Waggoner family in Fairfield Co SC, (where the Hill family I'm working on was located)....I think it was Hans Waggoner, and he had a large family of daughters... Could be a connection....or perhaps none??
