    1. [HIKALAWA] Samuel Makapo Nihipali
    2. Liane M. Ridings
    3. I am looking for information on Samuel Makapo Nihipali. He was born Kalawao, Moloka'i, Territory of Hawai'I on Feb. 20, 1857 and died May 18, 1927 in Hau'ula, Oahu. His parents were Nehemia Nihipali and Lihia Kaupea. He married Harriet "Hattie" Keamalu Lauwahi. She was born May 4, 1863 in Kalawao, Moloka'i and died Sep. 23, 1924 in Hau'ula, Oahu. Her parents were Mahoe Lauwahi and Pauole Kailua. They had 12 children: Kailihue, Kanohawalii, Kaupe'a, Lehia, William, Samuel, Hattie, Edward, David, George, Annie and Mary. I descend from his son David Kauluwehi Nihipali. David married Mary Maria De Mello and they had 19 children. Any information on the Nihipali Ohana would be GREATLY appreciated. 1. [HIKALAWA] Gabriel Lani
    2. Liane M. Ridings
    3. I am looking for any information on Gabriel Lani. He was born Oct. 6, 1892 in Honolulu and died Apr. 21, 1969 on Moloka'i. He married Mary Santos. She was born Oct. 9, 1900 and died on Jul. 20, 1967 on Moloka'i. They had 10 children: Gabriel, Mary, Thomas, David, James, Alice, Samuel, Henry, Mitchell and Lillian. I don't have a marriage date nor do I have their parents names'. I was told that the Lani name was originally Kuka'ilani, but was shortened to Lani somewhere in the late 1800's. Not sure if my great-grandfather Gabriel was responsible for this. Per Gabriel's military draft card, he did have 4 brothers. I found a brother, David (b. abt. 1889) who lived with him and Mary in 1930 (per the 1930 Moloka'i Census). Any information on my great-grandparents, Gabriel and Mary Lani, would be greatly appreciated. Any information that can be shared would be GREATLY appreciated. Mahalo! Liane Manipon Ridings

    1. [HIKALAWA] Looking for a Ben Schaffer.......
    2. Hello List, I'm looking for a man name Ben Schaffer, whom I think lives in Hawaii, he responded to an article back in February 1999 that I had posted in the Oha Paper, under "Reunions." I held a Memorial Service for my Grandfather Noah Kealoha aka Noah Kealoha Woodward on August 7, 1999 at Diamond Head Memorial Park Cemetery..................trying desperately to find my Grandfather's family. Ben had called my hanai sisters house who lived in Kalihi 2 times, left his name with my hanai brother but no phone number. At the time Ben seemed to be very excited and said that's my KEALOHA family. If anyone has information on Ben Schaffer, I would desperately like to talk to him. Please contact me at: email address-halekuauhau@znet.com or PO Box 711163 S.D., CA. 92171 Thank you in Advance! Leilei Kealoha-Campbell

    1. [HIKALAWA] Azores to HI Passport Index Project--Completed
    2. Hi All, I am happy to announce that the project to create an index by town/village for Robert Demello's book "Portuguese Immigrants from Azores to Sandwich Isles, 1879-1883" has been completed. The project took 2 1/2 years to extract, input, proof, and upload to the website. The last towns added were: Beleiu, Ponta Delgada Candelaria, Ponta Delgada Maia, Ponta Delgada Matriz, Ponta Delgada Ponta Delgada Sao Jose, Ponta Delgada Santo Antonio, Ponta Delgada (note: Some of those town names may be incorrectly associated with Ponta Delgada. I have transcribed them exactly as they were presented in the book.) You may access the main index at: www.islandroutes.com/passindex.shtml If you are interested in a scanned copy of a specific entry, I will scan for a small fee. Please email me for more details. 1. Portuguese to Hawaii Passport Index Update
    2. I've been working on the index a little over a year now. I am happy to say that the Portuguese to Hawaii Passport Index project is nearly finished! It will still take some time to complete the last part, Ponta Delgada (divided into 4 different localities), as it is the largest. The latest addition to the index is Matriz, Vila Franca. You can access that index at: http://www.islandroutes.com/articles/passportmatrizvilafranca.shtml To access the complete passport index, go to: http://www.islandroutes.com/passindex.shtml Note to researchers: If you can't find someone in one index, check to see if there are others for the same town. For instance, for Vila Franca there is "Vila Franca", "Matriz, Villa Franca", "Sao Pedro, Vila Franca", and "Vila Franca da Xira, Portugal". I've tried to stick as closely to the town names as seen in the book. I can't help you with your Gary ROWE, (wish I could) and I realize this may be a long shot - but here goes: My great grandfather was named Gary (Garry) ROWE (aka: Albion Garry ROWE), his son was Albion Lee ROWE (aka Lee ROWE), born March 9, 1892 in Florida, d. 2/16/1966 in Seguin, Texas. Gary ROWE is said to have married Ann WOODBURY - however no proof ever found. No records of this family in Florida either (I've been searching for years!) I'm not certain that the few records Albion Lee Rowe left were fact or fiction (rather mysterious gentleman- long story). Would any of you know if your GARY ROWE had ancestors who shared his name - anywhere at anytime? Any lead appreciated! Thanks so much. Peggy E-MAIL: PeggyLynnRowe@aol.com Los Angeles, Ca.
