He lived in Kalihi Valley as late as 1914. The Kahakalau's had a farm of some sort. I found this out by talking to a Kalahele (marriage relation here). Thing is, my Tutu's Mom, Keao, died early in his life and he was raised by his Grandmother. There are three other Kahakalau's I have found from that early time period (c.mid to late 1800's to early 1900's): Louisa Kahakalau (Kalahele), Julia Kahakalau (m.George Pokipala and then, Albert Kalaiwaa). Later I found a marriage (index) for an A.Kahakalau (I am not even clear if this is kane or wahine, although, I believe the latter),in Honolulu. I even have Book, page, and folio info, but no way to check it. I also found a marriage index card on: Groom: Kahakalau; Bride: Keao; for Dec.18,1875 in Honolulu by the Rev. Paaluhi..problem..I don't know what the missing first and last names are, or the parents of these two. Nor do I know how old they ! are. I believe this may be in the Rev Paaluhi's register. Is there anyone I can ask to get a copy? The problem is not knowing who to ask or where to write. In 1883 there was even a court case involving Kahakalau and Lepoloa regarding some land in Waipio Valley (Big Island) as well as a follow up motion! In fact the lawyer for Kahakalau was C.Brown and the other was W.I.Holokahiki and C.J.Judd was the judge! Case was heard in Honolulu! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo Nui, Joan Kahakalau
