Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Wd.2ADI/98.1.1.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Yes, I finally was successful---thanks to a extremely helpful librarian. They are normally not equipped to provide this service, however, she did the look-up and sent it to me. What a great person; typical of the Local Folks I met while stationed there while it was still the Territory of Hawaii (way back in ancient history). It was explained to me that it is NOT possible to do it via the Internet the way I would have hoped.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Wd.2ADI/121.1 Message Board Post: Just a quick response to my original post for edification of anyone that might search for Quarry. I called the Hawaii State Archives, and one of the archivists told me that Quarry STREET turned into part of Captain Cook Street sometime after 1939, and that it was between Alapai and Emerson Streets. Armed with that information, I went back to the census description and found that Quarry STREET is in ED #2-29 (1930 census). The bizarre thing is that Quarry ROAD is used in the description of boundaries for ED #2-1 and #2-2, yet when you look at the films it doesn't appear ANYWHERE!!

    3. Robert, I don't have the info, but if you or anyone has access to a Honolulu/Oahu City Directory from the first part of this century, you will find a section that describes the locations of different streets -- "running north-south between x and y streets," for example. Sometimes libraries and Family History Centers have city directories on microfilm, or the original hard-copy available. The 1930 enumeration district descriptions mentioned Quarry Road being in the boundaries for ED #2-1 and ED #2-2, however, when I look at the census reels, page by page, I see no entries for dwellings on Quarry Road. Does anyone have access to a 1930s map of Honolulu, who could look at it for Quarry Road for me? Would greatly appreciate it! Robert

He was my great, great grandfather. You may also be a relative . . . Marcus Billson is buried in the plot. As someone mentioned, Rose Ranch became Ulupalakua in up-country Maui. There is quite a bit written about it and other of Captain Makee's ventures with Hawaiian royalty. You can find it on the internet. One place to start is with a google search on "James Makee" Regards, Marsha Keen
