Good Afternoon!. Lets get some more action going on here now that the lists are back up. Please post about your ancestors - missing or found. Hawaii County HIGenWeb is update monthly and this month I added a link to the Images of Old Hawaii - a really great website full of history of the Hawaiian Islands and he posts just about every day. Also added WWI draft registration cards for Aguilar, Aguino, Agustin, Agustine, Ahan, Ahora, Ah Chong, A Choy, Ahia, Ahin, Ahina, Ah Hana, Ah Hung, Ah Quai, Ah Sam, An San, Ah Sing, Ah Tai, Ahulau, Ahuna and Ah Yo. I am researching Kashima and Nishikino on the Big Island and Kurosu and Kanno from Maui. Ihae quite a bit on those families and their Japanese ancestry - but if you connect with those lines please let me know. Hawaii County HIGenWeb is now located at: http://www.usgenwebsites.org/HIHawaii/ Lots of information there and I update monthly - please share and add to free genealogy. Thanks, Trish Elliott-Kashima

Author: keoni_k_agard Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.hawaii.counties.hawaii/406.2.3.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Grandpa Lili is the younger brother of Charles & Thomas Mokiao. There were two Piko Kekuias. Both named Mary or Mele. The younger one was called Piko Liilii. We have a photo of the two sisters together, they look to be in their 30's. They were the daughters of Jack Keaka Ahalua/Ahaula? Kekuianuiamoku and Waiholua Kekaua. Grandpa Lili said Waiholua's father Kekaua was the prophet or seer of Kau...story related to Grandpa Lili was that Kekaua died and was prepared and placed in a burial cave, however the Kupuna told his mother that he would resurrect. They warned his mother when she saw him do not cry! Some time later Kekaua came walking back into the village and upon seeing her son Kekaua's mother wept with joy. Instantly Kekaua became blinded...but Kekaua was famous among the people of Kau and South Point...he was able to call the fish to shore for the people when they needed fish and he was able to predict upcoming events. One other interesting thing about the Kekuia family line is that the are related to Kekuiapoiwa. One portion of Jack Keaka Ahuula Kekuia name and a portion of his sister's name held the other part of the Keuiapoiwa name indication where this family line descended from. Grandpa Lili said there were seven brothers all taking different names Kaapana, Kekuia, Hekikia(sp?),(he mentioned Leong )etc. all with the same parents taking different last names. They are decendants of the Kaapana line that were the keeper of the bones for Kalaninuiiamamao. Please forgive me I'm writing this from memory and I don't have the genealogy chart in front of me. Many of the names of the generation above Jack Keaka Kekuia are hidden as this was time when Kaahumanu was killing the children those who may have had connections to those alii who could challenge or had superior lineage to the existing Kamehameha line. As to the Williams Ohana, Grandpa Lili said that these were the two brothers of the two Piko Kekuias. When the brothers came to Oahu, the brother by the name of William Kekuia used his first name as his last name in order to find work on Oahu. This brother hanai(d) his brothers children and raised them. The last information I was able to ascertain from Grandpa Lili was that the Williams family lived somewhere in Kaimuki, Oahu. I hope you were able to contact Aunty Phina Tuiasasopo before she passed away. Hoku Kaikaina Rice and her husband Punawai Rice of Hilo were very close to Aunty Phina, I believed she passed much of her genealogy on to Hoku. Aunty Phina wanted to give me the information as I worked at Department of Hawaiian Homes and worked for the Oahu district office handling entire big island lessees for about eight years. I gave all my genealogy work product to Denise Murphy of the Waimea DHHL office. I believe she is now retiring also. But you maybe able to see if she could help you with information. Hope this helps in a small way! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
