I am looking for the family of John Hicks b. KY 1834. He died in Gainesville, Alachua Co. FL c. 1876. No will was filed. He is listed on the 1870 Alachua Co. FL census as a planter. Wife: Mary J. b. 1834 GA. Children: Parthenia D. Hicks b. 1862 FL d. c. 1899. Mattie b. 1864 FL. There is no paper trail for this man. He could have been born in KY, he and his parents moved to GA and then John Hicks moved to FL. Many probabilities concerning the migration of John Hicks. Brothers or sisters unkn. Parents names unkn. Place of birth in KY unkn. Wife's maiden name unkn. Parthenia married Jackson Brown in Levy Co. FL. Her sister married a Neuman, Newman, various spellings. The only clue that I have of family names of the Hicks family would be Parthenia and Jackson's children: William, Ella, Russell, Mattie, Laura, Turner Hix. After the death of Parthenia c. 1899, they were placed in an orphanage in Macon GA. No adoptions known. I cannot find the records of these children in Bibb Co. GA. Jackson Brown was the son of Alex and Augusta Brown. Alex was b. in GA 1837. Augusta was b. in GA 1840. Alex worked on a farm in Alachua Co. FL. (John Hicks?). Children: Jackson, Albert, Susan, Missy, Miriah or Harriet (hard to read the original census copy). Any clues or help would be appreciated.
