    1. [HICKS] Hicks in NC/SC

    3. I have a Daniel Hicks, and this is the information I have gathered on him so far. To understand the confusion, be aware that Daniel Hicks is said to have lived on the border of Richmond Co.,NC and Chesterfield Co., SC (formerly known as 'the old Cheraws") I have found two Daniel HIcks in this area. Both served in the Rev. War. One moved back to Brunswick Co., VA and filed for his pension in 1835. The other stayed in Richmond Co.,NC and served on a jury which tried the local Tories for patriotism.(or lack of) after the war. This Daniel Hicks sustained an injury to his thigh from a Tory ambush on the Pee Dee river during the Rev. War. The one who stayed in Richmond Co., NC married, during the Rev. War (ca. 1781), the widow, Sarah Donaldson. She had three sons by her former husband. On the 1790 census of "the Old Cheraws", they were listed as having six children, so Daniel was the father of one son and two daughters with Sarah. Found in Richmond Co., NC a record of a Capt. Wm Wall as being guardian of the orphans of Daniel Hicks in 1796. "From NC Archives/ Richmond Co.,NC- 1799-Court document /Stephen Parker vs. Estate of Dan'l Hicks, dec'd, and Sarah Hicks, Admistrix. Referred to as Capt'n Hicks." I have additional information on this family, but this is the most relevant. Most of the local Hicks came from Brunswick Co., VA and Daniel must have been a pretty popular name to use. I have found several through the years. I am interested in trying to local the children who were left with Sarah, the mother, and to try to determine what happened to them. One history books says she moved to GA. after the war, but she was living in Richmond Co.,NC long after the war. Would be glad to hear from anyone who suspects or knows of a Hicks connection to NC or Richmond Co. in particular. Joanne H. NC [email protected]
