James was born abt 1806 and married in Stokes County, NC. 1826. My HICKS to BROWN ancestor was taken in by Brown family and assumed their Brown surname - line today still uses the assumed BROWN surname.. When/where the change occurred is unknown, but possibly pre 1829 Researched back to the ancestor of JAMES ARTHUR HICKS, b abt 1806 in NC who married MARY SMITH in 1826 in Stokes County, NC.
