Part of my Cherokee blood that caused me to be a registered tribal citizen comes through the Nathaniel and Nancy Hicks, the parents of Chief Charles Hicks (my 5th great-grandfather) and his brother, Chief William Hicks. None of this family had ever lived "in the Carolinas" and they had no other "brothers" who had children that carried on the name. In the Eastern Nation, our Hicks families resided in the area that is now called "Georgia". Both Charles and William were dead before their families were removed over here to Indian Territory over the 1838 Trail of Tears. Thanks to the thirty-seven Cherokee rolls and the thousands of rolls of microfilmed information that we, as tribal citizens, have available to us, we have our family well-documented-- even down through the present generation.
