You will make it far easier for someone to help you if you tell us all those wonderful things you do know about Houston Hicks. For instance, those three sons: what were their names, where were they born, married, died, etc. In the census records for those sons, where do they state their father was born? What was his wife's name? Was Houston a name or a nickname? There are "Houston Hicks" in Texas, in Indiana, in Iowa, in Missouri - and probably others who are indexed with spelling variants. You say you have 'no dates' -- but you can estimate them for us. If Houston Hicks' sons were born in the 1920s, then we know that we probably need not look in 1850 census pages for you. If those sons were born in 1870s, then we don't have to go looking thru the 1930 census to find Houston. There are many people on this list who would like to help, but you have to give them a little assistance.
