Also the info of the John Hicks that married Elizabeth Brown being the father of Claborn Sr seems doubtful since Claborn Sr's birth would be before 1775, and the marriage of John and Elizabeth was not til 1789. There were at least six different John Hicks documented in the SW Va area around 1800 and I have seen more than one of them attached to Elizabeth Brown. One of these Johns is my ancester, and I have yet to figure out which one. I believe mine married Elizabeth Keller, 1815. Larry.
Larry and List Let me try to help you out on these John Hicks of Russell Co Va. My father was also a John Hicks. We start back in Cumberland Co Va. with the will of John Hicks #1 B 1705 Prince George Co of Va. his will : Cumberland County Will book 2 1769-1792 Page 205 Will Of John Hicks Dated May 7, 1775 - Probated Jan. 22, 1776: Daughter Elizabeth Rawling; Lend to my wife, Mary during her life the land and plantation whereon I now live and all the rest of my estate; after her death, Land, etc. to be sold and the money equally divided between Henry Hicks, John Hicks and Mary Hicks and Nathaniel Hicks and Clayborn Hicks and Susannah Hicks and Jesse Hicks. August 06, 1789 in Montgomery Co. Va. I have found only one son John Hicks #3 B 1786 in Montgomery Co, Va.. he married Nancy Hamly from Lunenburg Co.
