I believe that he died in 1844 or 1845. I know that he had at least 2 children, a daughter Caroline, b 1830, and a son, also John, who married Frances Ursula CHRISTOPHERS in Southampton in 1840. Hicks, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with Dr. Max Browning, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Hicks died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, in Methodist Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1904, in Erath County. He grew up in Floyd County and graduated with honors in 1924 from Lockney High School. He worked with his father as a paint contractor for one year and attended West Texas State College in Canyon. In 1927 he moved to Houston and to Plainview in 1931. He moved to Bailey County in 1932 and farmed. In 1943 he moved back to Plainview and worked as a paint contractor. He established Hicks Art & Frame Shop in 1947 and operated it until 1995 when he retired. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, was a charter member of Plains Art Association and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 54 for many years. He was an amateur radio operator with the call letters WA5URX and checked in with the Northwest Texas Emergency Net for many years. He married Frances Louise Locke on Aug. 22, 1932, in Plainview. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Hicks of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Louis Earl Hicks of Plainview; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Hope this helps. Born in Elams, S.C., he was a longtime Trenton area resident. He retired from Volk Tire Corp., Trenton, after 30 years. He was a member of St. John's Baptist Church, Ewing. Son of the late Willie and Bettie Hicks, brother of the late Margaret Bradshaw and husband of the late Gloria E. White-Hicks, he is survived by three sons, Bruce and Barry Hicks of Trenton and Wayne Jeffrey of Burlington; two daughters, Denise Renee Hicks-Smith of Ewing and Kim Hicks of Trenton; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Joseph McRae of Hamilton; two brothers, Haskin Hicks of Browns Mills and William "Sonny" Hicks of Trenton; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. My grandfather went on to marry my grandmother and had my mother in 1954 and 5 other children after her. My grandfather passed away June 28, 1994. "Imp" Hicks, age 76, passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He had lived in Abingdon since 1960, where he was a deacon at the Rosedale Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in World War II, and a retired branch manager of the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hazel Adams Hicks; five daughters, Linda Roseberry and husband Mickey of High Point, N.C., Iva White and husband Walter of Meadowview, Sandy Johnson and husband Dan of Lodi, Va., Beth White and husband Steve of Glade Spring and Connie Moffatt and husband Charles of Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Aleane Hash and husband Claude of Marion; six grandsons; six granddaughters; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mayme was born January 22, 1905 in Mooresburg, Hawkins, Co., TN. She had been a resident of Lenoir City since 1925 and was the longest term member of Hensley's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Lilly Orrick Hicks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Jackson Webb; grandson, David Jackson Williams; great grandson, Jonathan Isaac Boese; sisters, Annie H. Carpenter and Ethel H. McAnally; brother, Fred Hicks; and step-children, Eula Mae Webb (Lake) Fine, Cecil (Louise) Webb, and James (Elizabeth) Webb. Survived by daughter, Mary Lou Webb (John) Williams; granddaughter, Luanne Williams (Jonathan) Boese; great grandson, Barrett David Boese; granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer W.
