http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/sccintro.htm This index lists Tennesseans who filed claims with the Southern Claims Commission from 1871 to 1873. These 3,929 Tennesseans claimed their property had been taken by United States military personnel for use in the Civil War. The claim files include interesting detail about people and about the Civil War period in Tennessee. Each claimant was required to describe his losses in detail, and to prove his loyalty to the Union. Witnesses gave testimony in support of his allegations. The paperwork in the files is often extensive. See web site to order copies of the files. Surnames: Doolittle, Hicks, Brownell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Cei.2ACEB/1417.2.1 Message Board Post: Chris Wade, You posted last August info about Azubah Hicks. Do you or others know anything else about her parents? Specifically, did Moses Hicks and Lavina have other children? Do you know when they were married? A Moses Hicks is in Hoosicks, then part of Albany Co., NY in 1790, followed by the numbers 1, 2, 4. (The columns don't have headings.) In the 1800 census, Moses Hicks is in Hebron, NY: 2 males under 10 1 male 10-16 1 male 45 over (Moses) 2 females under 10 (one could be Azubah) 1 female 10-16 1 female 26-45 (could be Lavina) I am very curious to know if Moses Hicks is the "Elder Hicks" pastor who ran off with Amzi Doolittle's daughter during or shortly after the Rev. War from Warwick, MA. See http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=jss_pdb&id=I1096 for info about this (scroll down to marriage notes). -- Jillaine Smith

There is a possibility that my gg-grandfather, John E. Hicks b. 1834 KY, moved with his family to Arkansas. When and how long they lived in the state is not known. The name appeared on a 1850 census in that state with the right age (16) and he was b. in KY. There seems to be a possiblity that he may be my "brick wall" gg-grandfather. I am looking for John E Hicks parents and siblings and any information on his family. In the group of Arkansas HICKS, does anyone have this man in your family? Nora
