My 3-gr.grandfather is listed as Solomon HICKS in the 1900 Census of Henry Township, Wood County, Ohio. His birthplace is listed as "N.Carlinia"; age 73; b: Oct 1826. He is listed as 'Father'; a widower living with his son's family: William R. HICKS (45-b:Ohio; Head), "Allice" (46; Wife), "Cristol" (daughter), Ralph (son), and Lawrence (son). I also found Solomon in the 1880 Census of Holgate, Pleasant Township, Henry County, Ohio. His birthplace is listed here also as "N.C."; age 66. He is a widower with two sons: William (22; also a widower) and Solomon (16). He apparently died before the 1910 Census ... He's not listed in an index, and not with his son William's family (Henry Township, Wood County, Ohio). My question(s): Where is Solomon in the 1870 Census with perhaps a wife and 12-year-old son William & 6-year-old Solomon? Another clue I received from my gr.aunt ... She stated that her grandfather's name was James HICKS. Could he be James S./Solomon HICKS? Finally, could this be a relation to your Solomon? Thanks for any information ...

Just in time for St. Patrick's day, Boston College has announced it's putting online the "Missing Friends" column through which Irish immigrants in Boston tried to find relatives and friends they'd lost track of. This is potentially an incredibly useful resource for those of us searching for *our* relatives. It previously was available only as an eight-volume collection of books. The database is at <infowanted.bc.edu> _Information Wanted :: Home_ (http://infowanted.bc.edu/) There's a long article about the ads and the database in today's Boston Globe: _http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2005/03/17/the_irish_imm igrant_past_gets_tie_to_today/_ (http://www.boston.com/news/education/higher/articles/2005/03/17/the_irish_immigrant_past_gets_tie_to_today/)
Hello everyone, I would appreciate it if you would please read my post in the hopes that someone may recognize something and be able to help me in my 8 year search for my HICKS line. I recently ordered the death cerif. for Reuben Harrison HICKS that was born 1/24/1853. According to the certif. his mothers maiden name was LEDBETTER. Martha LEDBETTER. His fathers name was Isaah (spelling on the certif.).I believe now that Isaah was the son of Ruben and Mariah (JONES) HICKS of Weakley Co. TN. On the 1850 census in Perry Co. TN, Ruben and Mariah have a son named Josiah age 19 with them. Then on the 1860 census in Weakley Co. TN. the son is married and living close to them but his name looks like Isaah on the census. Could be first and middle names. Anyway, his wife is Martha and they have children, Isaac, Mariah C., William and Ruben. By the 1870 census, Josiah/Isaah is gone and so are the children, Isaac and William. His wife, Martha, dau. Mariah C. and son Ruben H., are found with his parents, Ruben and Mariah. By the 1880 census Martha and the children are gone. I believe the Ruben H. found with Ruben and Mariah is the same Reuben Harrison that married Josephine WATTS in Weakley co. on December 30, 1883. The children of Reuben Harrison and Josephine WATTS/HICKS were: Isaah......1885 Rufus Henry..........1887 Andrew R...............1890 Bertha Line............1892 Alvin Sylvester "Sill".........1895 Bertie Mae............1897 Albert Bryan...........1900 Vance Olan............1902 Josie Lee Rosie............1909 All of these children were born in Kentucy except for "Sill" and Josie, they were born in TN. Reuben and Josephine lived in Fulton Co. KY and are buried there. Most of their children are also buried there. I have been in contact with one of Reuben Harrison HICKS' grandsons and he says he remembers that his grandfather was married before and had a son, but he can't remember the names. I believe this Reuben Harrison HICKS is the Ruben HICKS that married Margaret PINCHBACK and had my grandfather in ARK. I found them on the 1880 census in Lawrence Co. ARK. My Ruben HICKS left my grandfather and his mother before he was born in ARK and went back to TN where he remarried and had another family. Does this make sense to anyone or am I just grasping at straws?? Does anyone recognize any of the above names? So close and yet so far...........really gets frustrating. Thanks again for reading my posts. Rita Rita (HICKS) DonCarlos rainbow1950@netzero.com
